Panamera [Spy Shots] Porsche Panamera Thread II (Spy pics & info)

The Porsche Panamera is a mid to full-sized luxury car (E-segment or F-segment for LWB in Europe) manufactured and marketed by Porsche. The Panamera name, as with the Carrera name, is derived from the Carrera Panamericana race.
I fear for porsche that their car will be light years behind the Bimmer in term of styling.

To Tell the truth, i am bored of this car and it hasnt even been released yet. Looks uninteresting and there are certainly other makes that are coming out the will have a better look by the time this animal hits.

Im sure it will be exciting upon release, but like i said, im already bored with it. Too much build up and spy shots killed the momentum of expectations of something wild. Porsche will have to re-vamp the mule soon.

This car is about as pointless as the Cayenne but I'll hold my breath because I see tons of idiots driving that car around. I'm sure it will sell no matter what because it's a porshyyyy.

The Cayenne has sold well because of it's top level handling and performance. If it was the badge people bought it for then the sales would have plummeted 1-2 years after the launch.

Good things come to those who wait:). But I feel ya, the long wait sucks energy out of you and I have to say that this is one of most weird looking mules ever. Porsche certainly didn't waste any time covering up the rear in an ugly manner using crocodile eyes graphics to cover up the tail lights with.

But stay put, within 12 months it will be unveiled and the entire world will bow in front of Porsche.:)

AutoBild on Panamera:

L x W x H x WB:
4,980mm x 1,987mm x 1,581mm x 3,110mm (IMO there is a typo at height figure: 1,581mm is way too high for a coupe - rivals are about 1370mm tall)

Engines:
V6 3.6L FSI: 300HP (250km/h) ... coming in 2010
V6 hybrid: 300HP + 110HP electro-motor ... coming in 2011
V8 4.8L: 405HP (280km/h) ... coming in 2009
V8 4.8L turbo: ???HP (300km/h) ... coming in 2009
possible other variants: V8 or V12 TDI by Audi; V10 from Carrera GT

Gearbox:
PDK (Porsche DCT) optional

AWD:
optional; coming in 2011

Weight:
V6: 1,800kg
V8 turbo: 1,950kg

Price:
V6: approx 80,000 Euros
V8 turbo: approx 125,000 Euros

Production:
Leipzig plant
min. 20,000 units planned per year
max. 30,000 units per year (max production capacity)

Nice info. The width is more or less similar to the s-class, pretty much expected since the mules look very wide in the picture, the panamera is a little shorter though. I hope that the V6 will be a bit cheaper of come with more power, because 300hp is not enough for such a huge and expensive car. I'm doubtful that it will be any engine different from the 520hp engine housed by the Cayenne TT but I am hopefully they will surprise me

Hope the front end is more porsche than that. That reminds me of 350z.

Panamera vs rivals (L x W x H x WB):

Panamera: 4.99m x 1.99m x 1.58m* x 3.11m ..... (I guess it's a typo by AutoBild ... The figure is way too high. 1.38m sounds more right.)

AM Rapide: 5.00m x 1.92m x 1.36m x 2.99m

BMW CS : 5.10m x 1.98m x 1.37m x 3.14m

MB CLS: 4.91m x 1.87m x 1.39m* x 2.85m ..... (* w/o antenna; 1.43m incl antenna)

Whether you love it or loathe it, Porsche’s new Panamera sedan is due to hit the streets in 2009 and is expected to change the performance sedan market forever. Buoyed by the success of the Cayenne SUV, Porsche’s managers have seen fit to put their famous badge on a four door car measuring approximately as much as a Mercedes S-class. Thanks to new reports coming out of Germany we can finally reveal everything you wanted to know about the Panamera, from its dimensions to the engine range.

The production Panamera is a large car – it’s almost five meters long and two meters wide and the base version weighs in at around 1800kg. Owners of the top-of-the-line 4.8L V8 Turbo model will be looking at a kerb weight of almost 2 tons. Porsche will launch the Panamera with three engine choices – a 3.6L V6 with 300hp, a 4.8L V8 with 405hp, and a 4.8L Turbo model with approximately 520hp. Even with the base model you’ll be able to hit 250km/h on the Autobahn, but if you decide to buy the Turbo you can nudge 300km/h, according to Autobild.

Porsche will use the Panamera to showcase its commitment to green motoring with the introduction of a hybrid model using the 3.6L V6 mated to a 110hp electric motor. Porsche’s hybrid drive system will allow drivers to use any combination of the two engines, much like today’s Toyota Prius.
Base prices will begin at €80,000 for the V6 RWD model and go up to €125,000 for the Turbo AWD variant. Porsche will expand its workforce by almost 1,000 to cater for Panamera production and the company hopes to sell 30,000 units a year. Sales will begin in early 2009 but only the V8 models will be available at first. You’ll have to wait until 2010 for the V6 model and 2011 for the long-awaited hybrid variant. The Panamera will also get Porsche’s upcoming 7-speed dual-clutch technology, though the company will have been beaten to the market by everyone from Nissan to BMW. Also available to customers will be adjustable shock absorbers and a number of sports modes to tune the character of the car.

On tap are a number of Audi/Volkswagen-sourced engines such as the V8, V10, and V12 TDI that could make their way into the Panamera depending on customer demand. Also available is the V10 originally used in the Carrera GT, though it’s likely Porsche will wait a couple of years before launching a model with this engine, if at all.

Early reports are also claiming the interior is typical Porsche but that the seating space inside the Panamera is very comfortable, even for four long-limbed adults. We’ll have to try it ourselves to believe it, but this may be the reason why Porsche had to make it so long.

:t-cheers:

We've got another year and 7 or so months before we see this car right?

No. This car will be launched in the 1-2nd quarter of next year. It will be a 2010 model.

New spy shots:

Still heavily covered up, especially the high end model which will feature a revolutionary rear spoiler. The tail light will be killer and look really cool once the ugly red masking tape has been removed. Looking forward to this car like crazy. Porsche fans rejoice!!

will this car compete with Mercedes CLS/Aston Martin Rapide or BMW CS concept?

I would love to but i still find it difficult to believe!!

Prices are a bit difficult to estimate but Porsche have stated that they will only be manufacturing 20 000 per year which is half of Cayenne production. Further more it's built on an entirely new platform so we can expect it to come with a premium price. I'd say that every Panamera will be 20 000 dollars/euro more expensive than a Cayenne with a similar engine.

Panamera 290-306hp: €70 100
Panamera S 385-400hp: €88 000
Panamera Hybrid: € 92 000????
Panamera Turbo 500-525hp: €128 000

Initially Porsche will want to gauge the customers and will most likely unveil the Panamera S first, followed by the Turbo and then the "low" power Panamera for the cheap bastards. There is even a good chance that Porsche might not even issue a cheap models and maintain the Panamera as a high power four door coupe.

Latest chop! I love how it looks in the second picture, best chop I've seen so far. Looks very promising except for the front bumper which resembles the Boxster too much and doesn't flow with the rest of the car.

So these horrible boot lines are true...:t-banghea
Looks like it will have this awful Ford Mondeo rear, my God...

This a car they are testing since a million year, and it will end-up as dreadful looking as the Cayenne...:eusa_doh:

Why the hell are they making a sedan-version of the disgusting Cayenne, and not of the gorgeous 911?

I'm so deceived...Had great hopes for this car...

The only thing that will change will be the inside design of the rear lights, the details of the bumper and the shape of the rear window which surely will be much shorter then on these mules...

Yes yes it has a hatch, I thought you guys had already figured it out. Why a hatch? The answer is simple. The group of people Porsche is targeting with the Panamera is all of M5, E63 and RS6 clientèle. Since Porsche is first and foremost a sports car manufacturer a four door coupe makes perfect sense.

But designing it with the sleek, sexy but rather compromised shape of the CLS and Rapide would turn off all those people selling their 911s for an M5. As much as Porsche wants it to be one hell of a performer they also want it to be a useful day to day family car. That explains the rather unique shape that Porsche has opted for.

Don't worry Raoul, the car is still heavily covered up underneath it all I know that there is a potentially very appealing car.
