Panamera [Spy Shots] Porsche Panamera Thread II (Spy pics & info)

The Porsche Panamera is a mid to full-sized luxury car (E-segment or F-segment for LWB in Europe) manufactured and marketed by Porsche. The Panamera name, as with the Carrera name, is derived from the Carrera Panamericana race.
I don't know if that has been said already, but Guibo made me think to something... He mentionned the Bugatti EB112 Concept and posted a pic of it.

The EB112, EB118 and EB218 have exactly the same shape, proportions and design as the Panamera!!! :eek2:
The 218 even has the rear pop-up win!!! :eek2:

The four door Bugatti have been mentioned in the same sentence as the Panamera before. But now when you have brought it up again I see that there are some mayor similarities. Both are somewhat sporty long distance cruisers, the horizon where luxury meets sport.

OK, assuming that illustration has the correct proportion, the car is will be exactly 2.29 times as long as it is wide, mirror to mirror. Further assuming the car will measure about 2.2 m mirror to mirror, it should be just a few cm over 5 m in length.

The are four door handles but only 2 doors which can open. So the illustration only gives a simple over view of what the car will look like.

Thankfully it's 2008 now so the Panamera is 12 months away from launch. I wish that Porsche would give us another sketch or a concept.

Panamera spied in the Cape

09/01/2008 07:42

Despite only being penned for local distribution in 2010, the controversial four-door Porsche Panamera was spied undergoing testing in the Cape recently.
An essentially undisguised left-hand drive Panamera was spotted near the Lord Charles hotel in Somerset-West.
It was sporting German registration plates and the number '3' instead of a licensing disc on the windscreen, indicating the possible local presence of a fleet of Panameras undergoing local testing, having been spotted in Johannesburg too recently.
Drawing its name from the fabled and forbidding Carrera Panamericana road-race through Mexico which achieved notoriety for being the most dangerous race of any kind in the 1950s, the four-door is set to the most controversial product Porsche has made since the Cayenne.
Four-door family Porsche
Primarily launched as an answer the Aston Martin Rapide concept and the highly successful Mercedes CLS AMG, Panamera is set to be front-engined and rear-wheel drive, combing traditional Porsche dynamic virtues with four-up touring spaciousness and comfort.
Although few doubt it will have the requisite dynamic talents concerning performance, many feel the uncharacteristic layout - being front-engined - and odd proportions conspire against it being quintessentially Porsche-like.
Despite widely held public reservations concerning the styling and proportions of prototype versions, Porsche is surging ahead with development.
A hybrid model is even being touted, all in the interest of continuing the company's enviable reputation as the most profitable auto maker in the world by exploring all possible performance market niches.
Diverse power sources
The Panamera is expected to be powered by a range of engines which should include an FSI version of the current 4.8-litre V8 found in the Cayenne. Augmenting these engines should be power sourced from VW and Audi in the form of 3.6-litre V6 petrol and 4.2-litre V8 turbodiesel power.
There are rumours suggesting the possibility of Porsche's manic 5.7-litre Carrera GT V10 also being offered in a bid to best all other four-door competitors.
The likelihood of this happening is very remote though, considering the bespoke nature of the engine and extreme manufacturing constrains concerning volume production of this powerplant.
The range topping Panamera is more likely to be powered by a twin-turbo 4.8-litre V8 similar to the one currently powering the Cayenne.

Considering Porsche's current stance on diesel engines, I doubt it. Though a powerful TT diesel in Panamera it would be an excellent fit.

I agree. A torquey diesel would suit the car fine. But diesel is not very popular in the US and hybrids are the hot food on the plate at the moment, so Porsche will off coruse want to cash in on that. Therefore I don't think that Porsche want to invest any money in a diesel engine.

I'm not sure, but that pictures looks old. Further more the car still has the same camo is has been wearing the latest 6-7 months.

That interior doesn't look anywhere near what we have seen so far. It's probably a very early prototype.

It seem like Porsche were using Cayenne dashboards in some Panamera mules to fool us. That new photo shows the real deal and you can see that by comparing it to the interior in the shot below where you can see that the center console which is a little bit exposed, is identical to the one in the new photo.

I like the design a lot, very spaceship-ish and similar to the Jaguar XF. The design and layout suits spirit of the car perfectly, a sporty four door GT. But I gotta say that I'm chocked by the number of buttons on the center console. Those infront of the gear shifter look difficult to access. But we'll see when more picture pop up.

The interior is not bad, but in that CGI, it looks...smallish, not very upscale. However the design is interesting. The screen is a bit low though. For the sake of design.

When will we have exterior pics without camo? It's long now!!

I think that soon it will be time for hardcore test with the state of the art split spoiler in full action, and they will have to put nothing but masking tape on it in order to test it thoroughly for rattles or any imperfections. that will probably happen after winter testing in March/April. Don't have any concrete info to provide though.

I think that will be the case with Porsche. If the screen were higher the interior would "feel" too luxurious. I also like the interior, it has a lot of bottons though! I wonder is Porsche working on some type of I-Drive system
but then again, the Lux factor.

Sport Cars are ment to be "worked" this is were the fun comes in.
