Macan [Spy Shots] Porsche Macan: Spyshots & Info

The Porsche Macan is a compact luxury crossover SUV (D-segment) produced by Porsche since 2014. It is the smaller SUV from Porsche below the Cayenne. The first-generation Macan went on production from February 2014 with petrol and diesel engine options. In 2024, Porsche released the second-generation Macan which is a battery electric vehicle built on the dedicated Premium Platform Electric (PPE) EV platform.
For this the Panamera has to go up-maket, like the Quattroporte did to leave place for the Ghibli. Right now, despite price, the Panamera is mostly compared to 5er/6er GC, A6/A7, E Class/CLS. So Pajun will be Ghibli rival. It is going to be interesting.

Have to strongly disagree Alex, people may have 'make believe' syndrome or as I will repeat myself: "The only one you have to convince is oneself."

1st PORSCHE is that notch above it's German breathren, the Panamera especially the Turbo variants is on a totally diffrent level at least BMW 760li and A8 W12 and engineering wise it's a sight to behold. No need to move anywhere;)

very nice

What seems to be an upcoming problem (in Germany at least) is that Porsche is losing a lot of it's specialness. I mean, with the Macan everyone will be able to buy a Audi Q5 based SUV at a price from circa € 45.000. Many companycar drivers can afford this. It won't be long and you'll see a Porsche on every streetcorner. I'm affraid this is going to "cost" Porsche clients. The type of client who wants to drive something special, something that isn't be driven by any other guy in the street. Same goes for a future A6 based Panamera-junior.

Personaly, I find this not an appealing direction Porsche is going. In my eyses it loses a lot of it's "Magic".

But then again, Porsche (VAG) will be happy with the profits, because I realise most people won't share my opinion and keep on buying Porsche badged cars. The succes of the Cayenne more or less proves this already.

REALLY looking forward to this one!! BTW, Martin is correct. Brand equity in luxury goods can be protected, even if there are product extensions for broader affordability. As long as the "brand promise" is maintained. Porsche will also remain expensive to 99% of people, even with a Q5/5 Series/E-Class competitor..

^ Mercedes Benz, once the purveyor of some of the finest saloon cars around, went and introduced the A-Class a while back. Was the A-Class special? No. Did it make an S-Class less special? Not to my mind.
Mercedes-Benz cars are still based on original Mrecedes-Benz concepts. The new Macan will be based on a mass production Audi Q5. It's the direction that I don't like. Porsche 911 is stil an Icon to me.
PS I know of course about the renault-polution by some MB-models. a direction I dont like either

Do you seriously think 99% of the people looking to buy a Macan have the foggiest idea where the chassis and other mechanicals come from? Do you think they'd even care if you told them? People on car forums need to step into the real world.

Let me quote a part of my earlier post " because I realise most people won't share my opinion and keep on buying Porsche badged cars". So no, I don't think so and therefore I am in the real world.

So the Macan is based on an existing design in mass production and the A-Class was based on a design intended for mass production. I see no difference in "specialness".
Sure, the 911 remains an icon and this in spite of the Cayenne, now in its second generation. Does the Cayenne detract from the 911 as an icon? Doesn't seem that way. Bearing in mind that the Cayenne availed itself of platform donation from the Touareg from the outset.

Depends if you want to factor the whole dealership experience in with that.... because I think with the addition of these other models it has made it slightly less special.
Then again, I've never had an S-Class.

I certainly don't want to be given an A-Class (the old one) as a replacement car when we take our E 63 for service, and it has happened.

Porsche often gave us a Cayman, or a 911 as a replacement for the 911 Turbo. Was always a pleasure.

Also, we have found that the service at Porsche has always been top notch. Not sure how that changes when they start having larger varieties of cars.
It wouldn't stop me from buying the brand though, but you can't say it makes no difference, because it does. (at least to me)

Actually I would say that being given an A-Class to potter around in, whilst your E63 was in for a service, made the E-Class all the more special when you got back in it! :p

But, I concede, having to mix with the A-Class buying rabble when taking in your S-Class for a service does at least make the ownership experience less special but not the car imo.

Over the last years, Porsche never had "cheaper" (prudently put) cars in it's portfolio. Yes, in the 70-ies/80-ies they did have the 924-968. Those cars dídn't realy sell well, partly because the 924 started with an Audi engine. With the Macan coming, they are going back to the more affordable cars. And not an affordable sportscar (like Boxster) but an ordinary SUV.

Imo the brand as a whole will suffer from this downpricing cars. For sure it's becoming less exclusive. That's a pity in my eyes. So I think about Benz as well. As the 190 came in the early 80-ies I thought that was ok. But it was absolutely not okay when the first A-Klasse came around. Just like Lukeswiss said, I didn't want to be given an A-Klasse nor a B-Klasse giving my S-Klasse for inspection.

I still think, that Porsche will be less exclusive after introducing cars like Macan and who knows what else is coming in future. I also think M-B as a brand has become less exclusive after cars like A-Klasse and B-Klasse. IMO ;)
