BMW drivers want driving dynamics, no brothel on wheels.

Also, the S class pushed nothing. Compared to the F01, it marginally improved the quality, nothing more, and maybe even less than that. The faux retro, unoriginal and bling bling isn't everybody's dream interior. Not to mention the PC screens sitting there like that.

Totally disagree with your comments that the S-Class has pushed nothing forward compared to the F01 7-series. Also not everyone that buys the 7-series will be a driver, they will most likely be a passenger and be chauffeured around. Have you actually noticed how many airports world wide are using these kind of vehicles as limousine taxi's for executives etc.? The W222 has alot of world firsts for safety equipment, its suspension technology (MBC) is pioneering (and most likely be copied by the next 7 series and Audi A8), its noise levels and comfort are unrivalled (unless you spend double the price and buy a Rolls) and the interior design, luxury and comfort advances to a new level. Sure the next 7 series and A8 will advance against their predecessors and will bring out some new technology which may not be available yet in the S-Class but to come out and beat the S-Class that is a tougher challenge altogether. It has been the class leader ever since it came out in the 70's (W116) and only beaten in certain areas by newer rivals, but as a package it is very difficult to beat and the one area that these cars are judged critically and probably stands above any other criteria for this type and class of car is comfort, refinement, luxury and technology and this is where the current W222 is king in its class.

You don't think it pushed interior design forward? I beg to differ, and so do thousands of people.

To be the first car with all LEDs, Magic Body Control, and an interior that reviewers are raving over...I'm not sure how you can say it marginally improved. It was a HUGE improvement.

Regardless of which interior you believe is king, be it Audi, BMW, or MB, the W222 certainly did improve the design of both the interior and exterior. To say that it didn't is beyond me.
When you mention all LED lights as one of cars greatest achievements, it doesnt sound very serious. And MBC had many criticism, so the only thing that W222 pushed forward is probably in looks department, which i think looks gorgeous inside out. Most S classes that came before probably had much more innovations.

The 222's interior is a revolutionary new stuff. Its not just an improvement. The brand news S is still the king. Above is only the RR Ghost, of course.

What is revolutionary about it? Perfume? Lights? All LEDs? Two screens?

like?

Copied? What, do you think VAG and BMW isnt developing this kind of technology on its own? Its just that Mercedes presented it first.

its noise levels and comfort are unrivalled (unless you spend double the price and buy a Rolls) and the interior design, luxury and comfort advances to a new level
Highly subjective, but somehow agreeable. However what about engines, transmissions, driving dynamics, command systems and other stuff that is as important in a car?

IF the W222 improved anything, it is maginal at best, and then I am talking about the quality alone, because the design is just fugly to me, inside out.

What's up with all these MB fanboys in the BMW 7er section all the time? Insecurity much?

What is revolutionary about it? Perfume? Lights? All LEDs? Two screens?

Perfume? Nah, Lexus has had that a long time already, two screens is nothing new either, and an 'all LED' interior lights is nothing but a silly gimmick.

Nope, nothing whatsoever new. Old engines, old gearbox and old heavy chassis. Mated with a new design direction that is not even halfway mature.

C`mon, there is no HUD in w222, and that system is, IMHO, more important than 80% of "world firsts" systems in w222. And that system is in BMWs from 2003. Even 3 series from 2011 has that. Even MINI. Maybe LCI 1 series. MBC is half usefull system, and by that, not so revolutionary. Buy S350CDI with MBC! Use MBC on snow or rainy day. Or night? MBC- IMO, just marketing. Maybe in future, MBC V2.0, but now - no no.

To be fair, this picture is from the S600, but I'm pretty sure it can be spec'd on all other Ss.

In the end I think most people buy the car with the design/brand that appeals to them the most....

With the new model year HUD is available for all S models.

Actually, the only times that I can recall in which the M-B S-Class could undeniably stamp its' authority on its' market segment were:
1.) The W116 model introduced in fall of 1972. Very progressive and innovative in comparison to its' BMW E3, FIAT 130, Opel K-A-D II and (gorgeous) Jaguar XJ series II.
2.) The W126 model introduced in fall of 1979. See above-albeit with successors to the rivals mentioned above + Audis' first go at the segment with its' "über 100" 200 T and minus the
discontinued without replacement FIAT 130.
Please note: I am not referring to unit sales, but rather to product content.

"And in the W223"
Look at G11, and you will know;)
ps. G11 come 2 years after w222, and w223, 5 years after g11. Think about that:)

Now about your post, obviously fanboyism got better of you: you cannot tell us nonsense (#1304), and then justify yourself with 'oh-who-knows-what-will-happen-in-the-future'. If you're not smart enough to check facts before posting your opinion, at least be a man enough to acknowledge that you are mistaken.

Someone insulted?!
Honestly, I don`t look at Mercedes configurator every 5 minuts, so I said about w222 not having HUD as a option on itroduction last year. Everything about MBC is from AutoBild article. And about funboyism, is my nick "e39" or something?-No! Am i on Merc part of the forum? -No!
Ps. OK. HUD on S klass in 2014. Exactly 11 years after 5 series:)

I'm almost sure that one of Citroën's DS models got the perfume dispenser before the W222, not sure if even the Fiat 500 had it, too.

If anything, I'd say that the S-Class introduced new levels of luxury into this segment. For whatever reason it happened (maybe because Maybach was discontinued or as a way to sell more cars) the interior quality and features of the new S are a step above the competition.

Despite their attention to detail, both the 7er and A8 interiors don't have the initial wow factor of the S-Class, in my opinion. Of course, personal taste is very objective and I much prefer the 7er interior, with its more conservative lines.

The new S-Class wasn't the technological break-through that was advertised, but it certainly was a big step forward.

And one more thing. Perfume dispensers and stuff like that have nothing to do with the car itself. They are just gizmos. A proper break-through has to do with engine, suspension or chassis technology and in few cases with electronics. Perfumes and nice leather are just a nice cover on top of the cake.

It's like the case with the hot-hatches. Most people were more excited about the iPhone/Android integration in the latest generation that the RevoKnuckle suspension. The signs of the times...

i thought there is no MBC for the 6 Cylinders? :)
