Discovery Sport [Spy Shots] 2020 Land Rover Discovery Sport

The Land Rover Discovery Sport (internal code L550) is a compact luxury crossover SUV produced by Jaguar Land Rover since 2014, under their Land Rover marque, and since 2017 their best-selling model. Introduced in late 2014, it replaces the Freelander in a revised Land Rover range of vehicles, with Discovery joining Range Rover as a sub-brand. Contrary to its predecessor, the slightly larger car is also available in a seven seat layout.

2020 Land Rover Discovery Sport Scooped With New Design
Land Rover has realized the cookie cutter approach works much better than giving each model its own 100% unique identity. That's why the 2020 Discovery Sport is a major refresh that removes the old rounded headlights for an Evoque-like look.
It's the first time we've seen the 2020 Discovery Sport wearing a production body. The changes are most noticeable at the front, where all the surfaces are designed with straight lines ending in rounded corners, a bit like an iPhone. The large air intakes are puzzling, to say the least since they aren't there just to show yet aren't backed by sporty exhaust pipes. Dynamic Design Package?

British magazine Autocar published a comprehensive report about every new LR model until 2024 and said it believes the Discovery Sport will be the second model to switch to the new PTA platform. The architecture is the same as the Evoque II and would allow for hybrid drivetrains.

Combined with the fact that Discovery Sport prototypes were spotted with a second "fuel" door as early as November 2017, it's not out of the question that this will be somewhere between an all-new model and a facelift, a bit like the 2014 Fiesta or that 2019 B-Class we keep talking about.

The current generation Discovery Sport has been around for four years and is Land Rover's current best-seller, produced at several factories and sold all over the world. Inside, changes should mirror the new Evoque, following the double-screen standard set by the Velar, but executed less expensively.

The Discovery Sport has quite a wide range of engines. It started out with the 2.2-liter diesel but switched to the Ingenium family back in 2016. And while more cylinders are probably out of the question, less might work. That's right, a 1.5-liter 3-cylinder turbo could be available, possible in PHEV form. And with the EU cracking down on emissions, the British SUV might also adopt a mild-hybrid architecture to conserve fuel.

I like the exterior of this car but the interior is terribly bland. JLR omitted glamour so that you pony up for money for an F-Pace, Evoque or Velar.

Where in those spy shots does it show the interior?

2020 Land Rover Discovery Sport Spied Testing at the Nurburgring
Land Rover is working on a much sharper-looking Discovery Sport model. This heavily camouflaged prototype still hints at some design changes as it goes around the legendary Nurburgring track.
The 2020 Discovery Sport is a bit of a mystery. On the one hand, it's supposed to be a statement, while on the other, Land Rover is suggesting that it's a new model, transitioning to some sort of fancy platform called PTA.

Our spies don't support this last theory. The frames of the doors and the glass appear to be the same. It's not unheard of for new generations of cars to have the same greenhouse as older ones, but it's usually cheap ones. Not only is the Discovery Sport not cheap, but it's also LR's most popular SUV.

But there's no denying the facelift is unusually bold for Land Rover. At the front, we have brand new headlights, much sharper and LED-powered, created in the image of the Velar. The design of the air intakes and main grille appear similar to the upcoming Evoque II.

Some have read into the lack of visible exhaust pipes a little too much. The Discovery Sport is just going down the same route as its German rivals. Not having the muffler stick out streamlines the aerodynamic profile of the vehicle.

Of course, it's also very likely that this is a hybrid or plug-in hybrid., which is undeniably something Land Rover is working on. With decreasing demand for diesel and ever-stricter emissions regulations, most cars and SUVs of this price are going green.

The consensus seems to be that you use a combustion engine of around 1.5 liters of displacement and combine it with an 100 horsepower e-motor for a total output of over 200 HP. Land Rover and Jaguar have both hinted that their larger 2-liter 4-cylinder turbo units will also have mild hybrid assist starting in around 2020.

CONFUSED!
Every new generation SUV/SAV with the exception of the RR Cullinan gets lower. Look at the new X5 and GLE even the the Cayenne all will be Velar-low in their next generation.

My point is that the SUV will ultimately be replaced by the station wagon :D

How clever mind f*ck*rs these OEM's are:bangin::eusa_clap

I think your eyes are playing tricks on you. I can't speak for the X5, but the GLE will certainly not be Velar low.

2020 Land Rover Discovery Sport Spied in UK With Full Redesign

Jaguar Land Rover may end up killing off some of its current models after Brexit. It's not yet clear which, but the Discovery Sport is clearly worth saving, as a new version is in the late stages of development.

It's easy to see why. In 2017, the Discovery Sport managed 44,181 deliveries in Europe, compared to 26,052 for the Range Rover Sport or about 10k for the Velar (not a full year). Only the Evoque managed to outperform the little Disco.

We think its success is down to a combination of affordability and rugged, slightly retro looks. However, designers are changing pretty much everything about it. This facelift is about as major as the 2014 Fiesta, and affects most of the 'soft surfaces.'

At the front, we have some narrow all-LED headlights hugging the hood and a new grille. Both side air intakes seem to be designed to channel air around the car and are probably a nod to the Jaguar I-Pace way of doing things. Meanwhile, around the back, we see that the taillights have been redesigned as well, together with the bumper.

Considering the two still somewhat share platforms, the Discover Sport is going to inherit all the engines from the 2020 Range Rover Evoque. The powertrains are all going to be familiar regarding output, but will boast mild hybrid assistance. Three versions of the 2-liter diesel will deliver 150, 180 or 240 HP, respectively.

In addition to the three gasoline turbo engines (200, 250 and 300 HP), the Discovery Sport is sure to have a plug-in hybrid system. We believe this will center around a 1.5-liter 3-cylinder, though this info remains unconcerned.

The technology package should also borrow from the Evoque II. So expect a rearview mirror that doubles as a screen, smart access with profiles and the newest infotainment with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.

JLR's slowing sales have little to do with Brexit.
Exactly. But they want to you to think they are. There are a lot of media acting as the "spokesperson" even though manufacturers are somewhat ambiguous.
It's exactly the same thing with Trump. The more they push the agenda, the more he will be your president after 2020.

I can't believe they delivered that many Discovery Sports in Europe. I can't think of a more mediocre luxury CUV on the market.

The new X5 is bigger than the current in every dimension; including height.

Luxury and Discovery Sport shouldn't even be used in the same sentence. I considered the car in 2016 but wouldn't get passed the depressingly utilitarian interior. No sense of luxury what so ever. It still sells because it's the cheapest practical Land Rover.
