- Engines: Petro and plug-in hybrid. No diesel

And the video...

The lack of a diesel will be a massive bummer if true. It makes for a punchy but economical engine choice in SUVs. Plug in hybrids are pricey and out of reach to entry level customers.

Come again? The Mitsubishi Outlander? The best selling PHEV in the world I believe. From like 50k.
Diesel is on the way of the dinosaur. And I much rather have a Porsche hybrid than a Porsche with crappy VAG Audi diesel.

And I told you about that Q7 thing, @Mick Briesgau...... LOL!

A hybrid will unlikely be affordable as an entry level diesel. Further more a plug-in one is not practical for everyone. Diesel engine could gradually be phased out but for not they have the best torque/mpg ratio which is attractive.

The Outlander PHEV after a government rebate of £5,000 rebate cost the same as the Diesel version which is interesting. If Porsche can make their affordable then I'm all for it.

However plug-in hybrid are challenging to own in the UK because most homes only have road-side parking. Some supermarkets have EV charging ports a diesel option will still be valued for those whom a plug-in isn't yet practical.

Hi klier, I hear you. But let me tell you, the newer porsche fettled audi diesel in my panamera is awesome! They did a lot of tinkering with that engine. Drove 620km's in it yesterday from Durban (sea level) uphill to altitude 1,700 meters to johannesburg. With 650nm it overtakes with phenomenal thrust. Did 150km/h to 160km/h most of the trip. Average consumption - 6.9 liters per 100km. It is AWESOME!

2018 Porsche Cayenne spied with active rear spoiler for first time

Our spy photographers were at the right place at the right time to catch on camera a prototype of the 2018 Porsche Cayenne.

At a first glance it doesn’t look all that different compared to the current Cayenne, but upon closer inspection you will notice a neat feature at the back. The roof-mounted spoiler has a built-in aero flap which opens up at a certain speed to aid aerodynamics. We haven’t seen anything like this on an SUV before, so the third-generation Cayenne will be the first to get it, unless the Audi SQ7 will lead the way. However, prototypes of the latter were seen carrying a conventional rear spoiler.

Getting back to the Cayenne prototype at hand, it doesn’t have the final taillights and most likely those headlights are also temporary. It shouldn’t come as a surprise taking into account this is in fact an early prototype and usually these have provisional body parts combined with components sourced from the existing model.

As far as the interior is concerned, we expect the cabin to be heavily influenced by the second-gen Panamera which was spotted a while ago with capacitive-touch controls. An all-digital instrument cluster, redesigned center console, and new switchgear are all on the agenda.

Sharing the same platform with the second-gen Audi Q7 and the Bentley Bentayga, Porsche’s overhauled Cayenne will go through an extensive weight loss program and should lose at least 220 pounds (100 kilograms). There was a rumor last August about a new array of turbocharged V6 and V8 engines co-developed with Audi and chances are the new Cayenne will get them. These will be offered alongside a plug-in hybrid variant and we are also expecting to see an electrically-driven turbocharger on some of the motors.

It will be a while until Porsche will launch the next Cayenne as the high-performance SUV is slated to come out towards the end of next year as a 2018MY.

I love that interior. The exterior... Well, I have had to look at the pics comparing it with the current model to notice the differences. Until now I believed it was the same car.

Stuttgart manufacturers have a gloss interior fetish. They should ship the cars with microfiber cloths.

It's on the options list.

$500 for one with the Porsche logo on it. An extra $250 if you want the cloth de-badged. Customized colors are available at an additional fee.
