2016 SEAT crossover chassis testing mule spy photo
Will ride on the MQB platform
A chassis testing mule of the 2016 SEAT crossover has been spied once again undergoing testing in the Austrian Alps.

Spanish marque SEAT is cooking up its first ever crossover which has been confirmed for a 2016 launch and will likely take styling cues from the IBX concept. Seen here is a chassis testing mule wearing a fully camouflaged Leon body stretching out in the beautiful scenery provided by the Austrian Alps. Set to use the MQB platform from the Leon, Seat will adopt a different designation for the crossover which is also bound to get a more powerful Cupra variant.

SEAT design chief Alejandro Mesonero-Romanos has already announced the vehicle's final design has been completed and will be "a big step for SEAT - the car is like a big brother to the Leon." The crossover will actually be produced in Czech Republic by sister brand Skoda and will likely be shown in production guise at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show scheduled for next September, with sales commencing early 2016.

Following the model's launch, SEAT could prepare two additional crossovers in the form of an entry-level model with front-wheel drive to take on the Renault Captur along with a larger SUV but only if there will be enough customer demand.

Seat crossover near production concept teased prior to Geneva Motor Show reveal
Production version on sale next year
Seat has published a teaser image depicting a concept which will preview their 2016 crossover.

It was about four years ago when Seat unveiled the IBX concept and now they are teasing a more near production concept previewing the company's first ever crossover which will probably be unveiled in final form this September at the Frankfurt Motor Show. As noticeable in the attached image, the design will be closely related to the Ibiza supermini and Leon compact hatchback.

Test mules have been spotted by our spy photographers several times and we know the model will be closely related to the MQB-based Leon but with an increased ride height, plastic body cladding and an optional all-wheel drive system. The model - described as being Leon's big brother - will actually be built by Skoda in Czech Republic and could later on spawn a hotter Cupra version with a more aggressive design and additional power.

Seat has previously announced the crossover will go on sale in 2016.

Seat 20V20 SUV Concept revealed

At the Volkswagen Group Night Geneva, Seat has unveiled its new SUV concept, the Seat 20V20.

20V20′ stands for “Vision 2020″. The futuristic concept vehicle will give direction to the brand’s future vehicles. Not only does it preview the brand’s forthcoming SUV, it also presents the new design language future Seat vehicles will follow.

The 20V20 would evolve into a production C-segment crossover in 2016 and compete with the likes of the Nissan Qashqai, the Renault Kadjar, the Mazda CX-5 and the recently announced Hyundai Tucson.

The exterior is predictable but the interior got me in thoughts. I get Porsche vibes from the central tunnel, and a mixture of TT and new Leon from the upper part of the dashboard.

Hmm.

That's one hell of a looker. SEAT should produce it or else they'll continue to stand in the shadow of KIA that manufacture good cars with strong European appeal, at attractive prices.

Looks excellent. Wonder if the next Tiguan will look as good. Me thinks no...

It looks quite bigger than the Tiguan. The size and shape of this car is more fit for a longer SUV like the Toureg.

Interesting. I wasn't entirely sure what "VW equivalent" this car would have but assumed that because it was on the MQB platform it would be Golf sized.

This could be the Seat Tecta
- 20000€

- Leon platform
- Base 1.2L, 110hp
- AWD extra
- 200hp gas
- 190hp diesel

SEAT Aran SUV reveals itself in infotainment display

SEAT’s first SUV is making an unexpected online debut courtesy of an image showing the infotainment system.

It’s been a long time in the making but VW’s troubled Spanish division is just about ready to take the wraps off its very first SUV. It looks exactly as you would expect and seems to borrow some of the sharp lines of the 20V20 concept revealed last year. Along with the car’s exterior design we also have a possible name for the model as SEAT will apparently sell this as the “Aran.”

According to preliminary details, the MQB-based model is going to be 171.7 inches (4363 mm) long, 72.4 inches (1841 mm) wide and 63 inches (1600 mm) tall. It will feature a 103.8 inches (2638 mm) wheelbase and will be offered with a standard front-wheel drive layout and an optional all-wheel drive arrangement available only with the beefier engines.

Speaking of which, the gasoline range will apparently include at least the turbocharged 1.4- and 1.8-liter motors. On the diesel side, SEAT will sell the Aran with a 2.0-liter TDI in two states of tune: 150 hp and 190 hp. Depending on engine choice, the SUV will be offered with a six-speed manual gearbox and a DSG.

SEAT will bring the VW Tiguan-based SUV at next month’s Geneva Motor Show before starting deliveries in the summer.

So, it's a Tiguan with a Seat fascia?

Tiguan and Qashqai. Please, watch the third window, looks like more from Nissan's model that VW's model...

One new lost opportunity by SEAT. They had a very good design with the concept.

Qashqai shares its underpinnings with whatever Renault calls that SAV monstrosity.

I doubt that the Tiguan shares anything with the Qashqai.

Unless you meant they share the general shape and dimensions.

I wasn't talking about if Volkswagen shares anything or no with Nissan. I know that they shares nothing.

I was talking about the design from this SEAT's SUV. I see one shape with details that are not shared with the new Tiguan or Q3. In your last post, you have told "So, it's a Tiguan with a Seat fascia?". I see the shape is different from the Tiguan, specially the design from the third window in the C-pillar, that looks like more to the third window from Qashqai.
