CLS [Spy shots] 2011 Mercedes-Benz CLS (Spy shots & Info)

The Mercedes-Benz CLS (initially called the CLS-Class) is a series of executive cars produced by Mercedes-Benz from December 2003 to August 2023. The original model was a four-door sedan based on the Mercedes E-Class platform, marketed as a four door coupé. An estate (shooting brake) model was later added to the model range with the second generation CLS.

re: 2011 Mercedes CLS (Spy shots & Info)

The next CLS will be incredible. Since it is sharing its platform with the S class, Im expecting an S class price tag too. But to compete with BMW's Concept CS and the AM Rapide it will have to grow in size and and the interior will have to be on par with the S class which the current CLS is definetly not. Mercedes definetly needs to take there time with this one because the BMW Concept CS is one of the best looking cars ive seen, so they have very stiff competition.

It's certainly a stretch to put the CS Concept in the same class as the CLS imho.:t-crazy2: The CS would be the largest model in BMW's line up right? Besides BMW gonna price the CS Concept right out the segment.

On the other hand the A7 looks to be a direct competitor for the CLS..

God I hope it looks like this!

A7 vs. CLS

CS Concept vs. Rapide

Panerama vs. ???

re: 2011 Mercedes CLS (Spy shots & Info)

Ok...I think comparing the CLS and the AM Rapide is a stretch, because I think AM is in a class of its own, above Benz above BMW. However, lets be real here, Mercedes and BMW are direct competitors. BMWs CS was a answer to the CLS because 1. BMW saw the success of the CLS and 2. BMW didnt have anything like this in its class to compete with the CLS and no, the 6 series is not a competitor of the CLS. It would be actually very smart for Mercedes to bump up the quality, tech, size and price of the CLS with bigger competition coming at them like the Audi A7 and BMWs CS. On top of that, I really dont see BMW marketing this CS above 100,000. A fully loaded CLS will cost you about 75,000 grand, so bumping up the price 10gs will really not be a deal breaker. This also gives Mercedes the option of building a smaller 4 door coupe at a more reasonable price that can have the underpinnings of the new E class. But this is not official, these are just reports saying the new CLS will be based off the S class because of the wider track on the test mule. For all we know it can be based of the the new E class just like how the current one is based off the E. In addition, the CLS has been very sucessful and if something is working why change it? What makes the CLS unique is that there is no competition and is priced very reasonable. Only time will tell what direction they will go in.

re: 2011 Mercedes CLS (Spy shots & Info)

This car looks much to large to be considered a CLS rival!

A7 on the other hand looks like a true rival imho!:)

That was not the point at all. We all know the CS will be much more upscale than CLS is. I was merely talking about the overall shape of the car. IMO at least as much coupé as the AM Rapide. That boot arguement doesn't work in my book. The idea of how a boot shold look like is exactly the same on both cars :t-cheers:

Breadbaker, you're version is completely wrong. Sorry. CS and CLS DO NOT COMPETE. Period.
And the CLS isn't priced reasonable. No MB is. CLS is premium over the E-class for 'less' car so to speak.

re: 2011 Mercedes CLS (Spy shots & Info)

I thought the CS was a cue to the 8series, meaning it will be shrunk down a little? Or is 8series something different?
I think the current CLS is great, apart from the headlights, everything is near perfection, probably the most elegant MB, and its interior too, it's my favourite MB interior and i think it is the most representative of MB, more so than the S!

re: 2011 Mercedes CLS (Spy shots & Info)

^ The Concept CS is being made ready for production as we speak, and the design will stay exactly the same minus some functional changes like normal door handles, and an interior with regular iDrive screen.

Some say it'll be named 8-series, some say GT7, some say something else.

Back on topic, here's Hucky:

Not bad, not bad!

Maybe we are seeing the lines of the future CLS a bit in this concept....mainly the side profile:

re: 2011 Mercedes CLS (Spy shots & Info)

I based it on the article on the first page it says:

The car will feature a wider track, as indicated by the extended wheel arches seen on this test mule, and according to insiders its platform will be borrowed from the current S-Class sedan flagship.
:usa7uh:

Sounds great! I guess that's possible if you consider that Porsche used the M5 body for initial testing of the Panamera even though the Panamera has larger dimensions.

So I wonder what MB are trying to do here. Move the CLS up to the same level as the 6er? I think that after the SLC the CLS will be the second car in the MB line-up to incorporate LED day time running lights in the head light clusters.

I didn't know the 6-Series was a higher level!:eusa_thin

It's not! CLS and 6er are in exactly the same segment, with the top end CLS probably being even more expensive than the top end 6er.

Edit;
looked it up...I was wrong.
6er is roughly € 12k more expensive....I guess that's a different segment.

in my country it's like this:

CLS 63 AMG... € 157,000
M6................. € 178,000

CLS 500... € 106,000
650i..........€ 118,000

re: 2011 Mercedes CLS (Spy shots & Info)

2010/2011 are looking more and more like promising auto years to buy a new vehicle.

I liked the CLS then, and the spy shots now haven't wavered that.

re: 2011 Mercedes CLS (Spy shots & Info)

Are we sure these are spy photos? Looks exactly the current car, save for a fancier though very subtle bodykit upgrade.

Great news is that it is based on the 221 platoform this time, more befitting of the name! However, it may end up costing more than the S Class, prices now will have to start at US$100K.

re: 2011 Mercedes CLS (Spy shots & Info)

That's kinda comical.

Listen, Huck has been money lately. Why deviate. This design is awesome. Build it and they will come.

re: 2011 Mercedes CLS (Spy shots & Info)

wow, the backside of the pics posted by Artist is pretty hot!!! The rear lights remind me of the Citroen C5 a bit, but that's not a bad thing. Very nice render/drawing. I like that back better than Huck's lights...they look kind of sad!

Here in Australia the 6 is substantially more expensive then the CLS.
