Sightings SPOTTED TODAY - Part 7

Yup, I don't think I've seen one those in the US that looks as good as that example.

A very early "Baureihe 114" 1600/2-which could be up to 54 years old. Quite the rare bird nowadays.

A "slap on" I would suspect. Somewhat wider stamped-steel rims devoid of hubcaps was characteristic of the very early Alpina 1600/2s'. Then again, perhaps this one is a sleeper with the Alpina trademark dual Weber carb setup under the hood.

Post lockdown, a trip back to Munich is a high priority for me.... think I need some advice on where these car spotting locations are!

If I had to guess, the owner has fitted some Alpina parts during otherwise necessary open heart surgery for the engine. You don't keep a car like that, that clean and original, then stick an Alpina badge on it, unless; A) You've fitted Alpina parts under the hood... or B) You've put Alpina-esque rims on it and want to pretend. He didn't do B, so I'm thinking A.

Option C is the interior is decked out with Alpina bits, but even then, he didn't change the wheels... that's normally the absolute giveaway of a wannabe Alpina.

What a good classics did you get, that 600 with the "Z" type grille on the sides and the widened wheels make it look like the M of the Issetas, it seems to be a longer version and that total surface of the sides without access doors looks super strange including today.

And that 1600 does not look like it came out of the dealership yesterday, but it looks like it came out 10 minutes ago from the original assembly line, incredible, in the photo that has everything open you can see the interior of the rear pillar it looks so white so new that it is to win any contest

I had the pleasure of once riding in a 57 'Chevrolet Bel Air that belongs to the largest collector in Latin America (250 classic cars), it had 200 kilometers from the factory, a time capsule, it was unique in the world and the sensation of traveling in it is Indescribable, being new is very different from a rebuilt car, I remember that it was raining and the driver was a professional Karting champion, he drift smoothly in the open corners, with that V8 ..... a dream and the demonstration that good cars of any time driven like this and cared for are and will be a pleasure

Christian mentioned Schäftlarn Abbey. I recall some very good driving roads in the immediate vicinity. My best "brother from another mother" buddy of the time, the youngest "Kfz-Meister" (master automotive mechanic certification) in southern Bavaria, used to blast around the area in his FIAT-Abarth 124 Spider-very often with me in the passenger seat. The early-to-mid 1970s' were good times for my car lovin' heart.

As a teen, I went absolutely "gaga" over these cars when they were presented. I envied a schoolmate of mine whose father purchased a new medium pale blue 250CE with cream-colored leather interior back in late 1970/early 1971. I recall that the car was stolen about 2 years later-and then found heavily dismantled somewhere in northern Italy several months following the theft.

These were simply "ÜBERCOOL" back in their day:

The 2002ti "Diana"-based on a concept created by racing driver Hubert Hahne in 1970 and dedicated to his wife of the time, German actress Diana Körner. A dozen original "Dianas" were produced. A bit of the "granddads" of the modern BMW Individual with their special elegant metallic paints, dual headlamps transplanted from the large six cylinder cars, very "hip" at the time Cromodora rims and light creme colored leather interiors in the darker hued versions. The original cars were fitted with the standard 120PS, dual Solex carburated engine found in the regular 2002ti. 5 of the "Dianas" swiftly found owners (one of which being, of course, the Hahne couple). It was a bit more difficult moving the remaining 7 cars. Some were modified and fitted with the 130PS fuel injected engine from the 2002tii. Hahne later fitted his "Diana" with the 2.5L il6 from the BMW 2500.

It's a bit of a mystery as to just how many of the original "Dianas'" survived. There were (and remain) a number of clones. Stellar automobile that was so sporting while being so elegant. I still remember having seen the metallic burgundy colored car at the BMW factory in Munich during a school class trip there when I was 17. It really blew me away.

I recall reading about the Diana's, the only thing I can recall off the top of my head was the unique quad headlight arrangement for an '02. I'm not sure the article I have goes into much more detail than you've listed here.

I named my E34 "Diana", it was the name of my girlfriend. I later changed it slightly to DieOnYa... because a leak in the intake system would cause stalling.

How interesting, I was completely unaware, more exclusive than the 2002 turbo or almost any special model of the brand.

Common, perhaps even mandatory, school class day trips in Munich were the BMW factory, the Nymphenburg Palace, the Deutsches Museum and the Alte Pinakothek (Museum). As a teen, the BMW factory and Deutsches Museum fascinated me. Everything else was...BOOOORING.

Was cycling around Munich yesterday. Ended up in the middle of nowhere on the outskirts of the city and came across this stunning sexy beauty!

Not counting the oldest pre-war Continental models, which I did not see, it is clear the demonstration that sometimes some models and generations pass to reach full maturity in a magnificent design, until with the Mark V they reached the top, and then not to equal it again.

Seeing it like this in person when was new in that white color with the interior in white leather, that endless bonnet, the oval rear window, etc., I am going to say something hard but the Rolls Royce of the time did not shade this Lincoln in presence and perception of luxury.

Here in Germany, there is a small (very small, actually) community of fans of "classic" U.S. automobiles. Of the cars here, a good number are purchased in the U.S. "sun states" and shipped to Germany. And...there are those cars that were previously owned by U.S. military service members who left their vehicles here when relocating back to America. As far as I am personally concerned, no U.S. cars that were manufactured following the 1972 model year interest me at all.
