Question:

It appears that Americans have an affinity for mounting front registration plates on the corners (rather than the middle) of the front skirt. Why? This was common on pre-1950s' cars and many vintage Alfa-Romeos. But on modern Porsches and BMWs' ??

Some states require a front plate, some don't.
People that don't want to drill their front bumper or want to be able to take it off, buy after market plate holder that screws into the tow hook hole. And that happens to be to the side.

Along with truly "properly configured" C257 CLS', the new A-Class is my favorite current M-B product.
 
Saw the A-class sedan over the weekend. For its class, the interior was nice and rear passenger space was good. Not a fan of the exterior. It just look odd aft of the C-pillar.
 
That FSO Rivolta is to rejoice just to see it, the dashboard seems new and totally current, beyond that it is funny the location of the radio just for your wife .....

I love the early 1970s' Iso Rivolta Lele. Like numerous Italian GTs' of that era, it appeared so convincingly modern (while remaining so elegant) in comparison to competitors from Germany or Great Britain.

The next step after the illuminated grills for BMW and Mercedes, a small and subtle led to each wheel, seeing it in person sincerely should not but it looks quite nice
