I owned a B1 1975 Audi 80 for about one year back in 1979-80. It appeared to disintegrate before my very eyes due to rust and its' engine seized just north of Bremen while travelling from Munich to Hamburg. Probably the worst car that I've ever owned. Then again, I probably did not give it proper attention-but the rust problem had me thinking: "What the hell...I'll just drive it hard and have fun with it until it breaks or the inspection authorities (TÜV) don't pass it.". It broke. It was an absolute hoot to drive, though. Very lightweight-and with its' 1.5L 75PS il4, nimble and quick. It's successor, a new B2 model, was immensely better in almost all aspects.

@Jimmy, I posted those Audi 80 photos in a US car forum on Facebook and a handful of guys commented that they owned one. They also reported about its chronic unreliability. :D

The biggest problem was just how critically rust-prone the B1 Audi 80s'/VW Passats were. Rust almost as severe as that of the notorious Alfasud.
