Their power and torque curves are very similar.

Despite the Beverly Hills hair salon connotations, this is the reason I would always buy a Boxster S over a Cayman S: the dynamic difference is negligible but the difference in variety of the day-to-day driving experience is vast.

Heck, even a Boxster Spyder gives a fair variation in the overall experience... and variety they say...
