Stunning car, but something of an odd-duck. Too heavy for real track use, but too much for the street. I'd still have one, the shock of driving one and pulling up in it would be enough for me. Make mine Mars Red please.

Yeah it does. It will be about 100K cheaper and more capable in every way. Mercedes put themselves in a bind with this car. They couldn't do a SL63 BS because that would have put the SLS in trouble. Though a SL63 BS would have been a much better car, I guess it wasn't seen as being grand enough for BS treatment since the SL65 is the top of the line SL. Oh well.

M

But they are done with this car..more or less.. its the last hurrah for the SL..and its been shipped and finished..

Yeah Mercedes is done, but some remain on dealers lots around the U.S. They're going to be an even tougher sale come mid-April when the SLSs arrive.

this thing is just pure madness. Stupendous - .

stupendous, the best word to describe it

it's sorta like handing a SL to some engineer and tell them to do their best, EXCEPT that they cannot communicate between each other so there will be no conpensating for any changes made by another engineer: like the engine engineer not communicating with the ssteering rack engineer, the aero engineer not communicating suspension engineer, the steering rack engineer can't communicate with the suspension engineer and the chassis engineer can't communicate with the engine engineer which is probably why the car is so wild

C'mon mate Mercedes is not about great package working well together. It's all about perfect separate pieces. The SLK is a great example.
The car was designed by Hitler and John Paul II.

PS: I should admit that I wasn't a fan of the BS at first but it really grew on me. Now I actually love it!

i love the hairy-chested masculinity of the SL65 BS, but prefer the more balanced and approachable SLR
