Just in from the last Auto Motor und Sport. This is a photo of the new Skoda Superb - and superb it looks indeed. This thing is hot. No words on the engines yet except that it's based on the VW Passat chassis. :usa7uh:

Question for our American friends: Would you love to have Skoda over in the US?

I personally think they'd make a stylish alternative when compared to really boring cars like the Camry, Accord, Maxima and even the Sonata from Hyundai. :usa7uh:

I opened the AMS and thought "wow, this car looks great"!

Skoda is like the once ugly girl from her teenage years in High School, who became a beautiful, successful woman years later as an adult.

Yep ....and that is why they are affecting VWs sales ....people are wondering why they should pay more for a VW when Skoda offers similar quality levels for a much better price. Wages in Eastern Europe is 20% of wages in Western Europe .....it makes Skodas very good value.

And Skoda's are more reliable than VW's too! :eek2:

The front is tight and the rear isn't bad at all but it looks very Volvo-ish

Sure, I'd love to see Skoda (and, Seat, for that matter) in North America, but I don't envision it, anytime soon.

However, Skoda didn't have much of a favourable reputation when they were here the last time. Americans have long memories for insignificant stuff...they'll only be thinking about the cars Skoda used to sell (& if it doesn't end up in the U.S., it likely won't show up in Canada, either). The best example I can give is that Americans are still soured on the idea of diesel-powered cars...why? The Oldsmobile diesels from the 70's! :eusa_doh:

Also, why isn't this in the Skoda forum? :eusa_thin

Thanks for the reply Jim. :t-cheers:

Skoda has improved tremendously and to be fair, their original Czech offerings (without German assistance) were innovative for the time and I believe they were also praised for power and comfort. Pretty rare that you hear those comments for an Eastern European car, unless it's a ZIL or Volga. :usa7uh:

I'll move the thread to the Skoda forums, but I thought it would get more exposure here. :usa7uh:

Hmm, the new Superb follows the new design approach that Skoda makes, but sadly those front headlights don't work for me...
