Widerø damaged my Rimowa cabin a couple of weeks back, it can't be fixed so I got a payout from them. It's still usable, they bashed in a corner, what they paid was purchase price less depreciation, so no new Rimowa, after a search I found Carl Friedrik, my new carry on turned up yesterday, its a very impressive and well constructed carry on. Perceived quality is well above the Rimowa Salsa luggage I've been using. New Rimowa's are a lot more expensive now they are part of LVMH, from reading reviews the quality has taken a tumble.

The cabin is very nice, I think I might add a piece of CF checked luggage as well.

How smoothly do the wheels roll? Do they have ball bearings?
Do the zips, fasterns and handles feel premium?

I was about to ask the same. Are they worth their price tag?

The wheels are Hinomoto, these are the gold standard for luggage wheels, the have ball bearings, rolls over carpet and parket flooring as well as my Rimowa ones do. There are no zips, the body is made from polycarbonate, it has an aluminium frame with clamps. Its a hybrid like the Rimowa Hybrid Cabin. I looked at buying another Rimowa, but the prices have gone up a lot since the LVMH takeover. Percieved quality is high, it's easily as good if not better than the 4 different sized Rimowa Salsa suitcases I own.

It's dead sexy looking luggage IMO.

It has been a while since the last time I received a Christmas gift that caught me completely by surprise.

BBR 1/18 Pagani Utopia Full Carbon. This is my first resin model and I am very very impressed by the realism of all the fine design details, and the texture and finish of the carbon fibre body.

I have a 'thing' for Southern Comfort... and it has a thing for me... I bought this bottle, released from a batch bottled in the 1970s, as my birthday is soon, and I was also made in the Seventies. One shot a year on my birthday, means this bottle will likely out live me.

This is another unexpected purchase. The Autoart 1/18 Mercedes AMG GTR was one of the older release , back then it wasn't in high demand due to cheaper offerings from Norev , and full diecast version from Almost Real.

I disagree with AI there, it's been a while since I've watched the film, but I'm struggling to think of anything that 'explicitly depicts' him as Italian-American - if anything, even when touching on his back story, I think they deliberately kept it ambiguous as part of the characters mystique... I'd argue he's not played as French or Italian, though is clearly a migrant from somewhere.

I could be wrong, like I say, it's been a few years.

That's what I vaguely remember too. He worked for an Italian-American mob, but he wasn't characterized as Italian but he worked for the "Italians." I think the mob did him a massive favor, i.e. looked after his family and brought him to the US as their assassin to pay off his debt.

I don't recall a debt, his back story was that of a man* who fled his country after revenge killing his murdered girlfriend's father.

* this is how it ended up, but originally he was supposed to have been about Mathilda's age. This would have somewhat explained why his reaction as a grown adult, to the sexual/romantic advances of a 13 year old girl were not quite inline with what the audience expected - for him it was a bridge back to what he lost when he was a boy... Reno doesn't play the part as someone who's emotional development stopped at 19... he pitches it as someone younger, less developed. I'd suggest the reason why he couldn't read was because he went on the run at about age 13, not 19 as it would have been in the film.
