Genesis G90 Second-gen Genesis G90 Revealed

The Genesis G90 is a full-size car manufactured since 2015 by Genesis, the luxury division of Hyundai Motor Company. It is the flagship model of the Genesis lineup. A four-door sedan, the G90 is the successor of the Hyundai Equus and was known as the Genesis EQ900 in South Korea from 2015 to 2019.

Some exterior styling comparisons with the S-class. The G90 looks so different than any rival, it cant be mistaken for anything else, and kudos to Genesis for finding their unique styling identity.

The S-class seems a bit more traditional but at the same time a little bit sportier looking. I kinda like the G90, it looks really like a standout but I still find the S-class too eluring and it just looks so good in white with those multispoke wheels.

The more I look at the interior, the more I like it. Yes, there are some details that are bit "gilded," but there seems to be many touch points that seem almost a joy to use it borders on fetish-like. I think the only thing that this does not have going for it is the lack of heritage established Euro brands have. Otherwise, Genesis continues making leaps and bounds with each new debut.

Very impressive all things considered. The exterior looks very contemporary to the point where it has a "concept" vibe. The interior is a little upright below the dash, but otherwise it looks very elegant.

I quite like it.

Like it or not, it's a very bold car.

The exterior design efforts are petty good.
The cab area on the newer model seems to sit up, mostly on 3/4 viewing.

The interior? hmmm...
Upon closer inspection, I feel it is a bit overdone. The folds and creases in the dash and the "arm-chair game controllers" next to the screens are a major distraction.
The HVAC air vents remind me of something Audi has already achieved. The center stack for the NAV, Radio, Media and HAVC, Steering wheel heat function, is cluttered with
too many functions in a small area. The door panels are empty with cheap-looking speaker covers.

The S-Class might have gloss plastic in the center console and door switchgear inlay which everyone hates but the attention to detail is noticeable in comparison.
The HVAC vents are distinctive and tactical looking, wood inlay design, seat switchgear ( location and design) Speaker grills, and the extensive use of aluminum, (even around the armrests) and a few other details give the S-Class a superior sense of occasion IMO. Minimalism (that is plaguing the European design language) and a couple of cheap details are hurting the W223. It still manages to stand out from the pack.

Exteriorwise I’d still take the S. Interiorwise there’s absolutely no doubt in my mind, the new G90 seems to be miles above W223. If it feels the way it looks, it’s absolute class. And…real buttons, a rotary controller, very decent how the HUD and driver screen are integrated, less visable plastic etc.

I'm a bit "on the fence" pertaining to the headlamp strips being extended into the front wings aft the wheelarches. And the C-pillar/quarter window dialogue appears to be straight from "The School Of Origami Sheetmetal Folding"-and hence polarizing albeit interesting. But otherwise, I find the exterior design quite stunning. Impressive stance as well.

And the interior looks mega high quality.

I have been waiting a very long time for the new G90 to be unveiled. After playing around in the korean configurator for some time, I have to say I love the car, but there are a few disappointments. The fuel tank is quite small. 73 liters. There is no 4 zone climate control and even the air vents in the B-pillar are only available in one big package, together with the three zone climate control. Furthermore, there is only matte wood and no wood steering wheel. With other options they are also still a good bit behind the germans. No heated windshield. No heated armrests. No digital Light etc.
The biggest plus point in my eyes is that they have almost completely avoided glossy black plastic. This makes the interior look very atmospheric and harmonious. The counterexample is the 223, which has the most dissonant interior I can imagine.

Wow I am mighty impressed with the exterior and interior design after seeing these videos. The cars exterior looks fresh and original yet very elegant at the same time. The front and rear twin stripe lights look bold and give the car a futuristic look at night time.

The interior looks on first acquaintance to be even more luxurious and more classy than the S-class. I think the use of buttons and knobs finished in back lit metallic and crystal looks expensive. All the switches look nice and no shiny black plastic used at all. The leather used on seats, steering wheel and doors looks very upper class. The attention to detail in the interior seems a notch above the W223. Electric opening and closing doors only available in the Maybach version and also this car has an electrical opening door armrest!!!!

I also agree with real buttons and knobs here being used instead of the screens. ( screens should be kept at a minimum to make functions more convenient.) Luxury is all about tactical functions and the appearance of hardware and how the hardware feels to the touch. Touch screens can never convey that feeling.

The new G90 interior is also superior to the S in having rounded edges in the dashboard seams, fewer pieces, and is finished off in stitched patterns.
Here is a visual comparison to the latest Lexus LS interior.

(@Mick Briesgau, could you see yourself upgrading to the G90?)

Good question, I just did a search on this. Looks like the G90 will not be offered in Europe.

"The new G90 will succeed the current-generation model, which has been offered in other global markets such as the US since 2015. Prototypes have previously been spotted testing at places such as the Nurburgring in Germany, but Genesis claims it is “not currently scheduled to be on sale in Europe”. Instead, it provides “clear intent in the premium market”, and will be offered in selected countries only as a halo model."

This is most likely a productive move to get off the ground with a new name.
