Watch the Glickenhaus SCG 004S Pass a Side Impact Test Without Airbags
Glickenhaus believes they are the ONLY company in history to pass the 32 MPH test WITHOUT an airbag.

"Side-impact airbags are a staple of modern safety standards. At awkward angles where crash structures cannot be built to compress and protect passengers, additional airbags add extra levels of protection. That makes side impacts a particularly thorny issue for cars with less-traditional cabins, like the Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus SCG 004S supercar. SCG solved that problem in a unique way: They simply designed a car that could pass a 32 MPH side impact test without those additional airbags.

In a video shared by the manufacturer, you can see the impact with a deformable barrier fly toward the car at the required 32 MPH. It then hits the right-hand side door at a slight angle, instantly compressing the crash structure in a simulation of a crash that could happen at an intersection. A photo of the aftermath shared by the company shows just how successful the test was, with the crash structure compressed and the passenger inside still well within the protected safety cell. According to a company release, SCG believes they are the only manufacturer to have passed this specific test without an airbag.

These tests are a very expensive part in the process for road-certifying the SCG 004S, one that the brand told Road & Track last year could cost just under $1 million. Two other previous tests, one last May and one this February, have been shared by the company. The SCG 004S, which was revealed all the way back in 2017, is finally headed for the road some time soon."

It's an amazing achievement. I Love engineering and with these types of projects it sheds light on other projects where literally seemingly nothing else is available, except walls of deafening silence. Smh.

*Slightly earlier this year but this is a hugely important update.

You'll have to forward it to about half way through for the SCG 004 footage.

Unfortunately Randy passed away I'm unsure of the circumstances and didn't pry per their request. Ultimately it doesn't matter, loss is loss.

I didn't watch the channel religiously but it was cool he had a Pagani Huyara.

I also recall he was on Dragtimes with a McLaren P1. He seemed an exceptionally amiable guy.

Funny, we've coincidentally been talking about central three seaters elsewhere.

This one shouldn't be forgotten, well apart from the interior LOL! Reasonably priced too.

But it's Jim's homologation status and efforts that have made it a hell of alot easier to understand what the Americans have to do to get their cars legal, reference the other three manufacturers.

Anyway~

I hung out with him on multiple occasions. Nice guy. He is missed for sure. I won’t go into any detail of negatives and speak ill of the dead. The world was better with him in it, despite the eccentricities.

Nasty looking interior, what the hell were they think of with the pattern? From the front it looks like a frog, looks ok from the back.

You did? That's cool man as you've said about negatives, we've all got them every single one of us! So I respect that.

You specify the car anyway you like. I think this gold one belongs to an English lady. But I get what your saying it's a bit over the top.

Gold one is currently in the US and belongs to the US East Coast dealer now.

What the...?! They want to make 30 of them by the end of the year???

This is very impressive. They are planning to build 4 cars per month in 2025, but are able to actually build 6 cars per month (or more!) this year, when the production process is much less sorted. Only a few manufacturers are able to perform such magic!

I am not gonna say anything until the first car is actually in the hands of the customer, but hopefully this time their projection is indeed correct.

But, that's all gonna be in 2025. 0 cars in 2024. Curious how in July they still had no clue this would be the case.

Also, since the car is now finished (allegedly), they can now reveal the final specs, including the weight - which they said they didn't want to reveal until the car was ready.

I want to know if that 1,480 kg curb weight, as published by evo magazine, was bullshit. I suspect it might be accurate.
We don't even have any basic dimensions for the car... They should really update their website. The presentation is very much in line with the style of 004S interior - straight out of 2008.

The specification is inspired by another Glickenhaus already residing in the HK Motorcars Collection—our black and gold SCG 003S. The two will make quite the pair when they finally meet.
