Re: SPIED: VW Scirocco

The Corrado was also a Hatchback.

-A Hatchback with a Coupé-ish shape. Just like the original Scirocco.

Exactly. While the new Scirocco looks much more hatch-ish. Or Shooting-brake-ish (ala TT SB Concept's rear). With very up-right tail gate / window. Just like Golf.

I see your point.

-The IROC should have a fastback rear-end like the Scirocco and Corrado instead of a upright rear-end that gives it the impression of being just an elongated Golf.

I guess Martin Winterkorn couldn't be bothered... :t-hands:

Re: SPIED: VW Scirocco

As I understand it the Scirocoo is bigger than the Golf slightly by being based on the Eos platform. (it will be built alongside the Eos too in Portugal).

The production versions front has had a redesigned front grill and IIRC the rear has been touched up too as it wasn't VW enough according to Winterkorn (I agree).

As for those who question why VW needs another hatchback think like this...

-It won't have entry level engines.
-It will be priced slightly above Golf aka targeting upper market eg C30, 147, 1er & A3/S3 etc
-all will have sportier suspension than standard Golf
-equipped better, more hi tech stuff etc

I can see this in the lineup while it isn't a true coupe in the sense of TT, 350Z, Celica & Tiburion, it will be targeted as a "Practical Coupe" for those that can't afford to lose space. (Yes much like GTI).

Re: SPIED: VW Scirocco

I hope that the concept will have similar proportions to the coupe.

Re: SPIED: VW Scirocco

Couple this looks to a RWD-Biased 4 motion system + DSG + 2.0 TFSI and I guarantee this will be a success. It should weigh less than the GTI though for a better handling

Show car seen at Paris last year will inspire car's stying
Reborn Scirocco takes first steps
The new Volkswagen Scirocco is ready to rock!
Auto Express magazine can exclusively reveal the first pictures of the German manufacturer’s next must-have hatchback, which has been spied testing for the first time.
Promising to be sleeker, lighter and faster than its Golf GTI stable-
mate, the Scirocco is certain to be welcomed by hot hatch fans and coupé buyers alike. The mag's images prove the shape of the final production model has barely changed from the concept which debuted at last September’s Paris Motor Show.
Ten months on, and engineers can’t wait any longer – public road testing has begun in order to keep the forthcoming model launch on schedule. And that has meant our spies were able to grab these shots of the first prototype in the US, where the newcomer briefly appeared wearing a disguise at the front and rear.
Despite the black camouflage in the mag's pics, several details are still clearly visible. Most striking is the unique profile of the Golf-based model, which is sure to make a big impression.
Free from the constraints of practicality and versatility that go into penning a conventional hatchback, the firm’s designers have been able to be a great deal more flamboyant with the Scirocco’s shape. Viewed from the side, it’s clear to see how the distinctive sill line rises and falls within the wheelbase. While the front end is under cover, the production model will have unique headlamps and an Audi-style four-sided grille.
At the rear, the newcomer has a steeply raked glass area to set it apart from the Golf. Due to go on sale in the UK next autumn, the Scirocco will fill a similar niche to the 1974 original, offering a sporty alternative to regular compact family hatchbacks. While torquey diesel variants are sure to be popular, Volkswagen’s TSI engines will spearhead the line-up.
Along with the existing 1.4-litre turbocharged and supercharged unit, larger-capacity versions are expected to produce up to 210bhp. Power will be fed to the front wheels in most models, with the option of all-wheel drive in top-of-the-range variants. Both conventional manual and two-pedal DSG sequential gearboxes will also be offered across the range.
Prices and specifications have yet to be confirmed, but the Scirocco will cost more than the equivalent three-door Golf. Unfortunately, the line-up is unlikely to include basic entry-level variants, so prices are expected to start from around £20,000

Re: SPIED: VW Scirocco

The man who designed IROC / Scirocco - Robert Lesnik (he is also the man behind Eos & Passat = current VW face design) - recently left VW design team for Schreyer's emerging KIA Euro design team.

Good for KIA :eusa_danc , bad for VW :eusa_thin .

Re: SPIED: VW Scirocco

sorry but i disagree
lesnik wasn't able to get the vw design to another level - in the end he even copied audi design parts - in my opinion the crome grill only works for the jetta, but anyway, i don't want to start a crome grill discussion
my hopes are high in walta de silva, in each volkswagen/audi(speaking of lambo,seat...) design team his outcomes did magic to companys image
vw needs a unique face or at least unique design elements - i can see de silva to handle this problem, my only concerns are that it could get too late for the scirocco or the new golf

Re: SPIED: VW Scirocco

Ican see your point Jack. The chrome grill is just not good for VW. It does not suit the rest of the car and is too near from what Audi is doing.

But let's be honest, the IROC is just wonderful. :icondrool

If it appears that the Scirocco indeed looks like the IROC and doesn't cost more than a 3-door Golf (:eusa_pray), it will be a big big hit. And I surely will be among the clients (once I have enough money of course, which is not really soon I fear).

I hate the Golf V, coupe or not, GTI or not, but the IROC!!! :icondrool

Re: SPIED: VW Scirocco

Another great hatch from VW :usa7uh:...!

Like I always say, no one does hatchs better than VW does :eusa_clap...!

Re: VW Scirocco (spy pics & info)

VW is simply confused. Why on earth do they need another hatchback, which is what this is. Why not a real sports coupe like the last Corrado and the Scirocco before that? They had a hatch, but they were much, much sleeker. No wonder the boss of VWoA said he didn't want this car, it is just another hatch that might step on the toes of the GTI/R32.

Re: VW Scirocco (spy pics & info)

^^
I wouldn't really call it a traditional hatch. It's a crossover between a hatch and coupe. It a 100% man's car. I kind of like the idea and the concept had sexy proportions. The test mule looks quite low, wide and muscular.

Re: VW Scirocco (spy pics & info)

I really hope it'll look like that; Scirocco and Corrado were my fav VWs...

:t-cheers:

Re: VW Scirocco (spy pics & info)

I like this WAY more than the Golf/GTi. This thing is Smexy! :D

Re: VW Scirocco (spy pics & info)

I disagree Luw, it is just a squashed hatchback only a little sleeker than what VW already produces. It isn't a proper replacement for the Corrado or Scirocco IMO.

M

Re: VW Scirocco (spy pics & info)

^^Whether is a proper replacement or not to the Corrado or Scirocco, you can't say it doesn't look good.
