Same Question , Different response.

I have driven porsche turbo, 996 GT3 mk1 and mk2, 997 GT3 RS i also have drifted and raced the porsches on track. I know how i must drive porsches. I am a racing driver myself.

The 135i is a great car/engine but what i said before on the limit a NA is just nicer to drive.

If you enjoy youre 135i that s perfect nothing wrong with that.

I think people are also confusing lag and throttle response. I didn't sense any lag in 135, but the throttle response is not anywhere as linear as an M3's engine.

yes exactly.

in NA M engine the pedal is really connected to the engine any foot movement is transferred to the engine.

In turbo also 135i and 335i engine it s not.

With the instant responding behaviour of an e-motor you can 'mask' the turbo lag. So the combination of a big turbo engine and KERS makes it possible to design an engine layout with almost the throttle response of an current NA ///M engine.

Will the next M5 have such a layout? Probably too early to say, but Scott always speaks about M cars becoming the "pinnacle of efficient dynamics."

The new M5 is being developed under the name "Relevanz " which means in English "Relevance".
Over the current car there will be a slight increase in power but not as much as expected from forthcoming rivals or to match their PS outputs. and of course press speculation.

M5 in the next generation is to understand is such a car relevant today? and this will be BMW's technological showpiece to offer a technological kinship to the F1 programme .

As a car it will be immense and it concludes speculation over the need for a Mbased 7er model when simply there is no need .
X6 was always considered for the M badge it is just pure logic that the X5 model receives one as well.

Like every M5 generation, our rivals will have no idea what hit them, plus the performance sedan brings something new to the segment , but they have always learned that when they first get behind the wheel of every generation of M5 .

Buy the M3 i did it too.
i have sold my 135i.

135i nice car for daily. But the 135i does not come close to any NA engine from M.

Turbo s always have lag you can t steer the car on it s throttle. With Turbo s you either have to much throttle or too less in cornering on the limit. It s never perfect.

That kills my fun in driving.

So when bmw can make turbo s which have throttle response like the NA M engines i try one again.

Perfect answer to the NA vs Turbo ongoing debate! :usa7uh:

OK, lot's of info to digest here!

So, 2lt turbo is a fact from what I can see (so that's an answer to my question on the new 1er topic) and 2010 is the time I'll be changing my car!

PERFECT timing!

From what I understood, we will see the 2lt turbo motor on both the new 1er hatch and the Coupe, but the new Coupe will debut about 6 months after the hatch (after reading Scott's post on the 1er topic).

Why would BMW wanna do that? Why not put the new motor on the new cars straight out of the box?

Are we talking about a twin-turbo 2lt motor, or single turbo??

Great news!!! Can't wait to see the first mules hit the streets!

Thanks for the affirmation! :usa7uh:

No, BMW M has always said that big SUVS are the complete opposite of its philosophy.

No, BMW M has always said that big SUVS are the complete opposite of its philosophy.

Porsche said they would never use Diesel engines. Now it has happen. BMW also said N/A engines are for M models, now they are going Turbo.
What the carmakers said 10 years ago are no longer relevant. :D

1er "SuperSport" ... in the latest issue of AutoBild: "Light, powerful, fast. The new BMW 1-series SuperSport."

:t-cheers:

funny how autobild journalists are lurking on internet forums :eusa_danc

The tables are turning on. Printed magazines are starting to quotes internet sources.

The power of internet. The Power of CreativeMarketing(tm).

Don't kid yourself, those fog lights are massive!

Those aren't fog lights but Xenons like on RR Phantom. Conventional headlight cluster includes DtRL LEDs & blinkers only.

Mind that's just an impression by Huckfeldt.

Scott did mention that the E92 CSL (if it does go into production) will be the first ///M car to feature KERS and it would be the pinnacle of ///M. I doubt they would unleash it on the X6/X5 M

Are they implying it will be as tall as the Phantom? :D

Our member South is an insider too, and he thinks KERS will be first available on the F10 M5....

Jack, you're so right....they got that info straight from the internet....probably this very site!!!

I see Huckfeldt received that secret envelope.

As for the car it is one possible route for the design to take.
The RR Phantom style lights is one alternative as is two single headlights of past BMW tradition , another option is a type of grille similar to the M1 Hommage that widens to reveal enclosed headlights.
The rear if they show you that is just circular rear lights (think 2002) in one example with a more modern shape in another example.

The next 1er will be very avantgarde in it's design to showcase a very modern insignia to the 1er product line and indeed the segment particular the Golf VI when you see how far imagination can take you in this segment. Like the 1st generation of 1er The new 1er will again be unconventional choice in a sea of unlimited convention.

Wait till you see the Compact Activity Sedan. That is an interesting design especially for the segment people will associate it with.

Every generation of M5 has always brought something new to the segment that completely outcasts it's rivals . The F10 will be no different.
The intention with the M5 as has always been is not to shout about it's purpose , that is why the M5 has always been a car that speaks for itself and we know the competition hears every word.
