so the S class is leading the race.. how surprising:D

The Flying brick does have a better interior and a more prestigous name, but thats about it in my book. The only new VW-based Bentley that has a chance of making it on the "Merc1" cool list is the upcoming Continental Convertible. It is supposed to be at the Chicago autowshow this week, a mere hop, skip and jump for me to attend!

BUt the Flying Brick isn't doing so bad considering were at German Car forum. (I have the feeling that if your going to spend 180k on a car, your not going to want a hyped up S class)

Precisely Matt, we are a bunch of German car fans primarily -I would much rather own a CL65 than a Continental GT, but I do think the Flying Spur is a cut above the S65.

This would likely be the case if I liked the way the Flying Thing looked or if I could forget the VW stuff underneath. Stunning styling would make me forget the VW association. Of course a Bentley is more special (or supposed to be), but the point of the S65 supporters is that THIS Bentley doesn't cut it. I kinda think of it as the S65 has elevated the S-Class a little and the Conti Flyer has dropped a little in stature compared to other Bentleys. If this were the Arnage being debated here there would be no debate for me, but for 165K the Conti Flyer isn't cutting it against the uber-S-Class model.

That is exactly what I would do too.

A lot of good arguments have already been written for and against both of these cars so I don't really have much to add to them. These cars being so expensive, heavy, and feeding those proned for the exclusivity/richness factor that I can only make my own choice based on the image argument.
Mercedes has the ultimate pedigree being the descendant of the first automobiles, whether the quality of the materials used for this model are quite the same as those in the Bentley or not. They are good enough. For some reason I have lately gotten the impression that Bentley is the car of choice for the latest generation of celebrities with whom I don't identify myself. Therefore, for these very subjective reasons, the Mercedes is my choice.

I gave the S65 my vote. I have seen a black S and it was gorgeous and with the 65 engine, huge brake discs and calipers + sexy sportspackage I really can't see the FS beating the S in style. Though the FS does have a very appealing interior.

I had a hard time deciding so i will take Paris Hilton's advise and vote for Bentley. :D

the Mercedes is not twice as technically advanced as the Bentley - that's just being stupid.

No offense but do you have a source? No ventilated seats on the Bentley seems like you pulled that out of nowhere.

Fact is, Benz might be more of a popular luxury car maker, but Bentley is infamous for being one notch above.

Being "one notch above" thay don`t offer very much!
Here is the 2006 option list for the Bentley Flying Spur. Your basically buying the image and old world charm. This car almost seem outdated compared to the Germans from a technological standpoint and is the reason I still don`t like comparing them because, as I said, the design philosophies are quit different.
