5 Series [Rumors] Any word on details of 2020 5er LCI?

The BMW 5 Series is an executive car manufactured and marketed by BMW since 1972. The car is sold as either a sedan or, since 1991, a station wagon (marketed as "Touring"). A 5-door fastback (marketed as "Gran Turismo") was sold between 2009 and 2017. Each successive generation has been given an internal G-code designation since 2017. Previously, a F-code designation was used between 2010 and 2016, while an E-code designation was used between 1972 and 2010. These are used to distinguish each model and generation from each other.

@Matski is that what BMW is implying? Are they putting N95's on all their kidney grills if so?

Right now, I'd take a badly poured half pint in my local, where everyone knows my name, even if I did have to wear a mask... but our pubs are still shut :(

Also... that's the 6-er in the Korean preview image.... so I might move the posts to the appropriate thread....

... the Skoda Octavia thread.....

...oooooooooooooooooo... burn.

Why are all these automakers obsessed with this style of headlights? A solution similar to the 3 Series would've made it more BMW.

The designer is Josef Kaban who was @ Skoda and move to...
Now I understand why he left BMW and returned to VW, he did not notify BMW that he had already done the same lights in Skoda

So now, in addition to copy corona rings filaments, the Skodas, VWs, the Chinese, etc., the similarity is even more evident and the most important and the real reason we're talking about this is because they also copied the double headlights and there it all begins.

Hey man why you acting like an old granny that can’t find her false teeth. It’s not the 10th time I posted this I was just taken the piss and joking about this particular pic. You can’t blame me for BMW styling the lights like other cars

In all fairness to @GTA45E, he only said...
Damn... BMW's DRL are no longer circular, but some arguments...

What's ridiculous is that people just don't get it. BMW invented the quad rings so they can shape them which ever way they want.

It's the same argument with the 3er and the so called Lexus tail lights. No stupid they're L Shaped tail lights that BMW have been doing for decades not Lexus tail lights.

You're spamming the same tired stuff. We all get it don't you think? Page after page of Skodas and Jaguars. Really we all get it. But if this means you're shooting your load now so you won't clutter the soon to be official thread with all these fine examples, I guess it was worth it.

BMW is copying others and the new S class is beautiful.

Quad headlights (typical BMW, but obviously not 'invented' by BMW), headlights with transparency, headlights with designer DTRL......it all comes from BMW, and is now copied by every other brand.

Same can be said for the Hofmeister Kink and L shaped rear lights. Sometimes even the kidney grille.

It's because the facelifted E and new S look soooooo good...:LOL::LOL:

Please don't take my post out of context. You gave me an old rating because you were offended here. I never said BMW copied Honda or any Lexus anywhere. Let's wait for this thing to break cover and keep things civil till then.

I'm sorry. Are you insinuating that I'm not being civil? If you're prepared to dish it out you should be prepared to receive it in return as well.

Y'all started this by beating a dead horse with no merit.

You know what I think? I think the new headlight and DRL design is cheaper to produce than the pre-LCI units with their more intricate 3D DRLs.

Could be, but I doubt it. The new units are much more modern I think, and they also bring the 5er in line with the 7er and 3er. The new Skoda lights look 2020, the old ones look 2010

Also, I really don’t see any more ‘3D effect’ in the old ones. The new unit will be just as 3D irl, maybe even more so.

Well, we'll get a closer look IRL.

To my mind the DRLs in the pre-LCI units are more intricate and their relief behind the lens is more pronounced. Agree with you that they look more modern but there is quite a lot of fine detail in the pre-LCI unit. Wouldn't that clever product manager get a better bonus for introducing cost-savings with an LCI? Isn't that a legitimate mindset of any LCI? Product improvement + cost savings?

The fine detail is for me part of what makes it look a bit dated. And while I agree cost saving is part of an LCI, I wouldn't think they'd cut corners for the eye catching parts. The official pics will show more detail, and then we'll compare the new with the old :D

Edit:

It's actually just the shape that makes it look dated, because after some investigation I see that this LED tech is the same on every BMW from 1er to 8er.
