Infiniti's hot models could carry ‘Powered by AMG’ badges as part of Nissan’s recent tie-up with the Daimler group, sources in Japan have suggested.
Nissan’s luxury arm is considering all options for the Infiniti Performance Line, from mere styling add-ons to full-blown hot models built on the main production line. But the latter option is said to be more in tune with the brand’s stated ambition to be recognized for its dynamics and performance.

Infiniti with AMG power??

BMW has M. Lexus has F. Cadillac has V. In short, any luxury automaker worth its grille badge needs a solid sport range. Infiniti has been trying to get in on the game with its Infiniti Performance Line, but emerging reports from across The Pond suggest it could be poised to get some help from none other than AMG.

According to reports, the Infiniti Performance Line could grow to include everything from aero kits to full-on performance models, the latter built on the same assembly lines as the existing models but carrying engines sourced from the Mercedes-Benz performance division.

The reports stem from parent company Renault-Nissan's recent deal with Mercedes-Benz to receive technology from the German automaker. Since the deal was penned, the rumormill has run rampant with speculation on possibilities as to how the Franco-Japanese automaker alliance might best implement Daimler's know-how, running from platform sharing to engine swaps, but this mooted IPL powertrain connection could be the most interesting yet.

There must be lots of Mercedes haters out there. All over the Internet the usual comment is: "Oh, there goes Infiniti reliability because MB engines are so unreliable..."

Morons.

Funny thing is, this is on Infiniti forums and these people spell their favorite brand as "Infinity".

MORONS. :D

Yea that is crazy! I love Infiniti myself and it is a welcomed idea. On the other hand, the Benz side of me is saying not so fast.

It's ok to assist them, but seeing a M56 AMG...Something is not right about that. Not to mention the folks that would see it as getting a AMG discount and skipping Benz AMG models to get an Infiniti AMG for 20% off.

I like what AMG are doing, the turn to weight-saving and more racing-inspired tuning but IMO it would be better for Infiniti if they had their own engines instead of borrowing them from AMG. With AMG engines there's a risk IPL will in customers' minds become a mere budget-AMG instead of having its own unique identity.

I don't see AMG sharing any V8 or V12 engines, but maybe the new turbo V6, if such an engine exists.

That RARELY happens on the G forums, they get pissed off when it does occur.

What crap. Dammit, Daimler Corp., stop trying to do everything in your power to ransack and cash in on the historic name that your forefathers created. Keep the exclusivity intact.

Infinite's on Benz chassis', powered by Benz, and AMG motors, with AMG bodywork, could be the line for me. I don't think BMW would ever do that. At least they give their 7-Series platform to a ROLLS-ROYCE!!!! :t-roses:

The 5.6 V8 in the M56 right now has a lot of potential, if they supercharged it then it would easily produce 500 horsepower minimum.... The chassis and suspension needs to be sorted out first, it's awkward in some turns with very easy power on oversteer(M37/M56) or lift off oversteer(M37/56 x).

And there goes RR's exclusivity!

This deal could go either way. I still don't see Benz allowing and AMG badge to be put on an Infiniti.

Indeed! But as a BMW owner (much more likely than an RR owner, for any of us), it works much better than downgrading your namesake and engineering to a Nissan product. Nothing against Nissan, but they should stay Nissan, and Benz, Benz.

We'll see.

I know a lot of people who would be saying "hello BMW" if they do.

Hey now,
mad.webp
Well nothing against Daimler, but they should stay Smart and just make Smart cars. Why are you acting like Infiniti can't engineer their own super sport sedan competitor on their own, they have the resources. :usa7uh: I own a 2nd gen. G35s sedan 6MT. I'm on the forums because I like German cars and may upgrade to a 5 series or E class in the future.

Nissan does just fine, and I'm sure they have the resources to engineer great vehicles, actually I know it. I've owned a Maxima, and it treated me great. The GTR is obviously one of the most remarkable performance cars of all time, and the new M is great.

But they're still no Mercedes, be that good, bad, or whatever. They don't hold the cache of Mercedes, and thus, Mercedes isn't doing themselves any favors by marrying Nissan.

Merc should be Merc, and Nissan should be Nissan.
