X2 Rumormill: BMW X2

The BMW X2 is a subcompact luxury crossover SUV produced by BMW since 2017. It is marketed as a sports activity coupé (SAC), it is considered a sportier and less practical alternative to the X1, as is the case with other even-numbered X models with its respective counterparts.
The overall shape is still great and pretty, but the details are a disaster. Nothing Drama Queen about that @EnI, it's just my opinion. They shouldn't have shown the concept.

It simply has nothing to do with a BMW anymore, except for the grille. It would have been a nice car if it was a Chinese clone.

Front bumper: ugly

Front lights: ugly

Hood shutline: disaster

Rear lights: nondescript

Me happy? No! A far cry from the concept.

What did you expect? Since the patent diagrams were released it was clear that it was going to be a showstopper.

Like the Audi Q2 it is not for me.

To @EnI or @SCOTT27: Does the X2 preview the next 1 series? I am surprised by the lack of sharp creases along the sides or bonnet. Is it a hint of what to expect on forth coming models?

That is one ugly car and the colour doesn't help.

The X2 is in a prime position to not only fulfill the segments ever increasing demand for crossovers especially in the all important C-Segment. But it also will provide sustainability to decreasing 1er sales as it approaches its eve of retirement.
In fact whilst many new customers have come to take on the 2er Active Tourer and the X1. There is migration from the 1er also as well as MINI which is the biggest clue to why the Countryman is larger for the segment.

The X2 deliberately mixes Sporthatch and Coupe so it looks sporty, solid and practical. A usual Sport Activity Coupe outline as per the X4 and X6 would not have worked. It's too condensed wheelbase wouldn't give it the outline of an egg. This is rectified with the forthcoming new X4 as it provides a further stretch in the wheelbase to offer a more dynamic rather then truncated roofline. The new X2 wil provide a further platform for customers to move to the Crossover but indeed a more emphatic option with the more sportier X2.

The 1er will of course join its C-segment bretheren by going FWD/AWD in which the competition available and forthcoming all will be. Expect some elements from the recent concepts such as more pronounced body work, less enhanced but subtle definition, sharp angles and crisp sculpture.

What a revolting little BMW. Thank goodness for the new X3 and X4 - those things are proper.
The styling of this X2 leaves me totally ambivalent as to its identity as a BMW. I'd rather BMW pursue i-type vehicles than these little FWD horrors.

What an ugly BMW,the shape, the headlights and rearlights and all.In fact I don't like current BMW's headlights in general.

I see you guys are slowly waking up.
I have stated my concerns eons ago about the current design language. I felt the moment you have to explain a car design with meaningless phrases(emotional mobility, etc)- that is the moment you have lost the plot.
The current design language to me is lacking in focus and purpose. Still make some good concepts though.
Just my opinion.

Had a feeling the car will turn out this way, in any case the Mercedes GLA isn't that much better.

Emotional mobility doesn't describe a design language, it's a fairly concise two word phrase to describe a concept that BMW are trying to achieve with their products... a mode of transport that inspires emotion. The actual design language used may help to achieve that, but 'emotional mobility' doesn't refer to the design language in the way Bangles 'Flame Surfacing' did, or Wageners 'Sensual Purity' does for current Mercedes'.

Personally, I do agree that designers in general do talk a lot of bullsh*t, I'd much rather hear about the design of a car from the point of view of an aerodynamicist for instance, or the engineering team responsible for packaging.

Well, anybody new to Scott would have been forgiven for thinking it would be 95% the Concept X2, "looks-wise", seeing as that's the line he kept preaching.

But, anybody knowing his history should have known this was complete and utter BS, as usual.

The car is portrayed in shit color, bad angle and low end options, that as usual with BMW really look low end (my god those hallogen lights). So wait a bit before to judge. But yeah if you were expecting the concept cool factor, you will be dissapointed, that['s why i think them joining wagon of manufacturers doing concepts that are the ideal versions of the real production cars just to show off is a very big mistake.

It’s just not a BMW - whereas the X1 is! The X1 is the only decent vehicle on the UKL platform...low hopes for the next 1er.

Why have they re introduced the ugly hood shutline? The X1’s shutline looks great? I don’t understand...

I always say..,Its actually 90%.

Just coming back from the x2 presentation.
2 models were there two x2 in 20d ... in M sport version but with a slightly differences : some of the trim are not pain in the first one and the other has body color all element paint
The first one was yellow with a cloth and alcantara interior finish with yellow stitch ... the trim was a sort of carbon with aluminium
The second one was blue but the color seems slightly différent from the estoril blue ... interior trim was classic aluminium with blue mat finish
The two car were sitting on 20" allow wheels Bi color on the yellow one and black in the other one
The dial was on par with the new F20 Lci 2 and the interior style is like the x1
The two have a large sunroof
There look quite good and you can believe Scott when it told you that the x2 is 90% of the concept ...
the reveal should be next 25th October
Take the vin of the car (ea85294) but find nothing on Bmwvin ...

This is seriously wrong.

THAT in THAT picture is wrong, but taking in consideration it's other good sides like mean look, low roofline, put some nice 20"s on it and some nice blue M colour and it's a winner, for sure. Oh, xDrive is a must, don't accept nor i ever will a fwd BMW.
