i have read it from rs6.com that a 3.0v6TDi Bi-turbo diesel engine is coming from audi with 300hp and 650nm (480lb.) the source was also dead-on on the rs6's engine type and its power, so i consider it fairly reliable. anyone can confirm this?

also, it is said that the engine will debut in mid 08 in the q5.

Ditto. An A5 with this engine and QTV / Drive select would be very nice indeed. Heck, with just a small bump in HP, they could even make this the first diesel "S" car :D

That would make an interesting strategy. S-cars would be diesels and RS-cars would remain petrol only. That could work! :usa7uh:

It could work because an A5 with 3.0 TDI already isn't that much slower than a gasoline V8 S5. If we go by the official numbers, the current 3.0 TDI goes from 0-100 km/h in 5.9 seconds while the S5 does the same in 5.1 s. And the small gap is even more impressive considering the S5 has >110 HP more. And with its superior torque, the TDI is actually quicker in most real life situations. This rumored twin turbo TDI with 300+ HP would close the gap in acceleration from standstill (possibly even beating the current S5), eliminate any trace of turbo lag and probably kill the S5 in 60-120 km/h acceleration, all the while being cleaner, less hungry, more reliable and give you gobs of neck-breaking torque to enjoy. :D
The only downside is that it probably wouldn't come with a manual transmission.

This is all assuming Audi is bold enough to actually market a S5 diesel ;)

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
