RULE UPDATE

This Rule Update applies to the Photo Competitions that have recently been re-started.

We are implementing a change in the way your photo should now be submitted to each weekly competition. Currently, you are having to upload your photo to an image-hosting website such as imageshack, photobucket or flickr, and then having to include a direct link of the photo in your post for each week's photo competition.

We have decided to streamline the process for our participants by now having all of you simply including your photo as an ATTACHMENT to your post when you enter the photo competitions each week. This not only simplifies the the process for each member, but it also provides a more reliable and permanent way to store photos on GCF, thereby ensuring we do not have any problems relating to image hosting websites.

We have added this change to the Rules section that is included with each week's Entry Thread.

This Rule Change will come into effect from next week's Automotive Photo Competition (that is: Automotive Photo Competition #2).

Below, I will include a simple example of how your photo entry should look with this new, more simplified format.

Example of NEW Format:

Here is an example of how your photo submissions should look like with the simplified Attachment format. (I am using my own submission from week #1 of the Automotive Photo Competition as a means to compare).

After every rainy day, there's a gorgeous BMW waiting to be photographed!

It had be raining for about a week straight, so inevitably there were some puddles. This one puddle was in-line with my car, so I held the camera down at my ankles and took some shots, mostly hoping the horizon was close to level. I then removed all color, and increased the level of contrast.

Thanks Beemer. We want to phase this in as soon as possible. We understand if it cannot be done by tomorrow, though we hope that it can, but it can be done in the following days after the voting.

Thank you all!

To add one more thing, even though the picture is in a thumbnail we can circumvent that when it comes to voting and copy the image url and post it so that members can see the image implemented into the actual post. This should be easier on the eyes.

HOW TO: add a Photo as an Attachment

HOW TO: add a Photo as an Attachment

After you have thought of a neat little title and a brief explanation of your photo (both of which are completely optional), you then need to attach your photo.

Simply scroll-down the page to the 'Additional Options' section where you should see a 'Manage Attachments' button. (Note: There is also another button to add attachments. This button shows a Paperclip and is located in the same areas as the Font, Size, Text Color toolbar).

After clicking the 'Manage Attachments' button, a pop-up window should appear. Here, click on the 'Browse' button to locate the photo you want to submit from your computer. Once you have located your chosen photo, click on the 'Upload' button.

After the photo has successfully been uploaded, the pop-up will remain open, though the text-box where the photo file-name is shown (beside its corresponding 'Browse' button) will now be cleared-out. Close the Attachment pop-up window. If you see your photo file-name above the 'Manage Attachments' button, it has successfully been attached to your post.

...And that's it. Simple as that! :)

REMEMBER
to do this new submission format from now on. :usa7uh:

Just a quick heads-up to all members. In light of the new Rule Update, I have now updated the entire Rule List to reflect this change in format.

:)

Rules for Entry:

  • POSTING FORMAT: You should include your photo as an attachment to your post. Do not post your photo directly within your post. A How To Guide can be found here:

  • Your photography must be a resolution of 1024 x 768 or lower. If it is not, your photo will not be included in the voting thread.
  • Levels, Curves, Color Balance, Brightness/Contrast, Hue/Saturation, cropping, or anything else capable in the development process or with filters and common special lenses are allowed to use in Photoshop or other image editing software. Selective Color is allowed. Other adjustments and effects are not allowed to be used in your picture.
  • The submitted photograph must have been taken by the member submitting it.
  • Please do not submit a photograph that violates both domestic and international laws.

  • You can re-submit a photograph that did not win a past competition. There is no limit to the number of times you can do so.

  • Each week, the Photo Submission thread will be created Monday morning, and will remain open to entries until Friday morning. It will then be closed, and a corresponding Voting thread will be opened Friday morning. Votes will be accepted until Monday Morning, thereafter a new thread will be created for the next weekly photo competition.

Rules for Voting:

  • You will be allowed to make only one (1) choice during the voting process.
  • Once you have submitted your vote, you will not be able to change your decision.
  • In the interest of fairness, entrants may not vote for their own photograph.
  • It is not required - though it is encouraged - to post an explanation for your choice in the Photo Voting thread.
  • As stated above, the voting period for each weekly competition begins Friday morning, and ends Monday morning. Once this voting period ends, you will be unable to place your vote.
