Dawn Rolls-Royce Dawn

The Rolls-Royce Dawn is a convertible luxury grand tourer manufactured by Rolls-Royce Motor Cars. It was built in order to replace the earlier 2-door open top car model, the Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead Coupé. The Dawn was built on the platform of the Rolls-Royce Ghost, unlike the earlier model which was based on the 7th Generation Rolls-Royce Phantom, the flagship car model of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars until the arrival of the 8th Generation and the Rolls-Royce Phantom Coupé.

New Rolls-Royce Dawn review

Not long ago, the average age of a Rolls-Royce buyer was a fairly understandable 55 years old. Now though, with astronomical wealth coming from China and the Middle East, that number has dropped to just 45.

Cars like the smaller, more focused Ghost and Wraith have played a big part in attracting a newer, more youthful audience. Models like the upcoming Cullinan SUV will further cement that youthful push, alongside the car you see here – the brand-new Rolls-Royce Dawn.

The Telegraph:
Rolls-Royce Dawn driven: the world's most luxurious convertible

Smothered in lashings of leather, wood and chrome, the Rolls-Royce Dawn is the most opulent convertible – sorry, drophead – on the planet
Do “Rolls-Royce” and “sexy” have any place together in the same sentence? Apparently so, if you believe what the BMW-owned luxury car maker says about the Dawn, its new – don’t call it a convertible – drophead.

Not one for modesty, Rolls goes on to describe this new car as the most uncompromised open-top motoring experience in the world, and the quietest open-top car ever made. Sitting in the back of said vehicle, wind whipping around my ears as the big V12 engine surges us past another line of slow-moving traffic, I might have cause to question such a claim. Because when it comes to getting windswept in convertibles, not even Rolls-Royce, striving for perfection in everything that it does, can defeat the laws of physics.

Sounds like the best luxury convertible in the world and rightly so.

The Rolls-Royce Dawn has earned Top Gear Magazine’s coveted 2016 ‘Luxury Car of the Year’ award. Dawn, the fourth distinctive model in the Rolls-Royce Motor Cars family, is powered by an exceptional 6.6-liter twin-turbocharged V12 engine and features a multi-layer foldaway fabric roof that, when in place, makes the Dawn the world’s quietest convertible car, according to Rolls-Royce. The roof can be operated “in total silence” in 22 seconds at up to 50 km/h, or about 31mph.

Top Gear said:

‘Take the world of high-end goods. Sure, you can splash a few grand on a posh smartwatch if you’re suitably inclined, but the market for intricate, mechanically wound chronometers that are less accurate is worth millions more. Would you rather wear shoes tailored by a hyper-sensitive 3D printer or a Jermyn Street cobbler? That’s why the Dawn is 2016’s finest example of automotive opulence. Why should every car be kneecapped by its cold, hard numbers? “Quality remains long after the price is forgotten.” Quite right, Sir Henry.’

The 5,644-pound vehicle boasts 563 horsepower and 575 pound-foot of torque from a 6.6 liter V12 engine, with a top speed of 155 miles per hour. It can go from 0 to 160 in 4.9 seconds. Combined fuel economy in the city and highway is 19.9 miles per gallon.

The car is 17.3 feet long, 6.4 feet wide and 4.9 feet high with a wheelbase of 10.2 feet.

The Dawn’s first model year is already sold out.

Looks drop-dead-gorgeous... or should I say, drop-head-gorgeous.

Seriously though, that interior colour, is... umm, an interesting choice.

They say that those front seats are not very comfortable.
I guess that is relative. Rolls-Royce seats are not like the big comfy armchairs you find in old Cadillacs, and they've never been as large as the seats in older Mercedes cars.

What a statement car. It's indulgent but more discrete than the Drophead convertible. No wonder the latter is retiring.

They say that those front seats are not very comfortable.

And with 'they' you must mean some dudes who will never be able to buy one?

Either way. This Rolls, the 4er cabrio and MB S cabrio are the best looking 4 seater cabrios in the world, imho.

Does anybody know what to those metal circles on the sides of the interior rear are for?

I wondered if they were for attaching a wind deflector ....or are they switches for the doors? (n)

Most likely a windscreen?
