Phantom Rolls Royce builds limited edition ‘Peony’ Phantom

Rolls-Royce has used the Phantom name on full-sized luxury cars and limousines since 1925, making it the longest used car model nameplate in automotive history. In the 20th century, the Rolls-Royce Phantom was a very low volume, hand-built limousine, which in its first four generations was custom coachbuilt to the customer's requests, and sometimes extravagant desires. Whilst automobile manufacturing over time became more mechanised and prolific, and vehicles from other manufacturers could be built in greater numbers and at lower prices, the Phantoms remained hand-built, and production of individual cars only began once the order was placed. The use of the name "Phantom" is a long tradition of naming Rolls-Royce models after ghosts or spirits.

Due to popular demand, Rolls Royce has commissioned a new special edition Phantom saloon under its official ‘Bespoke Programme’ that has been designed specifically for United Arab Emirates customers. The limited edition model is called the ‘Peony’ and it features a two-tone exterior of Pearl Blue with a contrasting Moonstone Pearl Blue and Seashell interior.

The ‘Peony’ flower design is an ancient oriental motif that represents royalty, wealth and distinction. The motif, in traditional blue and yellow, is used throughout the vehicle, featuring as an exterior logo along with interior wood trim inlay and oriental art door capping. Customised tread plates also include the logo emblazoned with the words “Peony motif, exclusive Bespoke Phantom”. Customers also receive a special perfume developed by Emirati perfume company HIND.
The Middle East has been a major driver of the ‘Rolls-Royce Bespoke Program’ and currently claims the highest volume of requests for the custom cars. The program is a special service that allows customers to change virtually every tactile facet of the car, whether it is a thicker steering wheel or a completely customized cabin.
Working in a closed off area of the Goodwood assembly line, the Bespoke team even go so far as to develop their own paints, materials and mechanical modifications. The mechanical package of the Peony, however, has been left untouched, meaning power comes from the familiar 6.75L V12 engine. Peak output stands at 453hp (338kW) and 530lb-ft (720Nm) of torque.
The Peony now joins the special one-off golden Rolls Royce Drophed Coupe, which was built for an individual, also from the UAE.

Why don't they update that engine, 450 seems short. 500 seems adequated

Not at all. With big cars torque matter more than horse power and in this case 720nm is well adequate. This is a Phantom so you're not going to be racing with the pedal down trying to race an M3 from 0-200km/h.

So why not a Diesel? A 6.75 V12 Diesel with 450hp would have more than 1000Nm. Besides that, the Bentley Arnage T has 500hp and 1000nm, the Phantom natural competition

Not to mention MM's gega torque and hp,anyway i hate that edition it's too wimpy for my tatse:D

For one, Diesel engines are still way too noisy. Maybe if they can make diesel engines much more silent and decrease emissions, it could be more suitable.

^ True but it came along way man,the diesels in S class are already superb and no noise at all inside the cabin. So i guess in that ultra premium segment an extra effort may be done to silent the engine like application of pads or sound isolating materials around the engine:t-hands:

Who knows, we say see some variant of a BMW V12 diesel in the future. As others have stated, advancements in diesel technology are constantly improving now...so who knows what the upcoming Baby-RR will feature under it's lengthy hood. :)

As for this limited edition 'Peony' Phantom. It's good that RR are listening to their most valued customers and acting upon it. Being bespoke model, it sure is something special... especially due to the fact that these wealthy Middle East customers have approached RR to create such a car rather than some aftermarket firm. Really speaks volumes about how important it is to these customers to have RR-genuine vehicles.

If there ever was a sentiment that RR is in the same league as a Bentley, then RR's bespoke efforts have clearly highlighted that they are moving to an even higher level. I wonder if the baby-RR will be open to such bespoke editions, or be left fairly mainstream? :eusa_thin

As for the exterior colours of this car. It's definitely not my cup of tea, but it does posses a certain level of sybolism, with the light blue/grey at the bottom representing white sand, the middle blue representing the ocean, and the lighter blue again at the top representing the sky .. or maybe I'm just looking too deep there.. :D
