What the 5 lacks to me is charisma and an arresting look that commands me to pay for it, as does the A6. If I was a family man and needed a spirited drive to carry my family in, they'd be my choices perhaps. As a single guy who wants the stately and dynamic presence of a Sedan as a stylistic preference, I feel the E was the best for me. I will agree that the 5's interior is best in Class though, although I get the E's interior, and it isn't until you've gone on a nice road trip with one, that you'll "get" what the designers and engineered aimed for with it: Perfect Luxury driving ambiance. Whereas the 5'er coddles and surrounds you, the E acts as a Lounge for you. I feel like M-B went to its roots for the interior ambiance with this car.
The Jag however I feel has the best interior materials in a *fancy" sense. Suede headliner, soft touch carpeting where the E and 5 have plastics, etc. However, in a *quality* sense, I'd say that it comes in last. Materials don't seem built to last, and everything doesn't seem bull-strong welded on like in the E-Class.
As per sales, I'm aware that the ROW markets may be different, but in the U.S, the E60 was the sales champion over the E-Class during its entire run. The W212 since has taken the Sales crown, while they've skyrocketed to push the F10's sales lower than the E60's were. As much as I don't agree with MBUSA putting the AMG Package on all E's as standard from an enthusiasts perspective, I do get how much it has probably helped sales.
Also, we don't even get these motors, so that aspect is a non issue to me.
