It's a stunning car, but I really want to know how and where they're going to incorporate these design cues in future models.

Not that hard to guess. The profile with no lines, the sharp front end with thin lights, huge grille and elegant air intake will most likely be part of the W223.

...and just when I was on the verge of convincing myself that M-Bs' exterior design department had found "The Holy Grail Of The Immaculate Automotive Aesthetic" and somehow magically acquired that decisive, never relenting "Style Mojo"...we are confronted with the first photographs of an uncladded AMG GT 4 (5) door "sedan thingys'" derriere and now sense trouble in paradise.

Bummer, man...

Yes, and may also contain a message for Mercedes-Maybach? :)

Automobil Industrie said:
Maybach probably gets a more independent model palette. "Just look at what we've done with AMG over the last decade," says Wagener, looking at SLS, GT and the upcoming Gran Turismo for four. "Then you get an idea of where Maybach could be in ten years."

Yet still and solely based on the exterior aesthetic, I can't help but ponder whether this has aged better than the C217 will:

I think both generations of CL and current S-coupe have been/are gorgeous cars on their own and couldn't call one more beautiful than the other.

the sharp front end with thin lights

I heartly hope so, my main and perhaps only gripe with Mercedes current design language are the over detailed, laboured headlights.

A Mercedes-Maybach S 650 Cabriolet in Cote d'Azure Blue was spotted in Stuttgart recently. :)

Thanks for sharing @Wolfgang, this is the best look so far at this color and I must say it looks very regal and rich..

I really want them to build this amazing car ....but make it a Maybach with a Maybach badge . Now that Rolls no longer makes a Phantom Coupé this would be the grandest two-door luxury car of them all.

It makes me think that in time Maybach will return to be a serious threat to Rolls-Royce.

If they did a run of 500 of these and 500 of the coupe's they would sell every single example.

But whatever they do it must be badged Mercedes Maybach, but with the Maybach grill and insignia.

Mercedes-Maybach

In November 2014, Daimler announced the revival of the Maybach name as a sub-brand of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class (W222), positioned as an upscale version akin to the more sporty Mercedes-AMG sub-brand.
