Return of the Queen? Maybach Cabriolet (Vision 6)

Gorden Wagener just completed an IAA design walkaround. The vid can be found on MB's facebook. :)

I just can't wait to see what they're going to do with all these design cues. The next generation Maybachs are going to be gorgeous.

Note the banners that can be seen behind Mr Lamm - Progressive/Modern/Ultimate Luxury.

Was this some kind of Design stand?

Thx Wolfgang, I've just seen that video.

On the side note about that video - anyone noticed he refers to the Project ONE as 'X1'?

I can't wait until 2020 so the S-Class rollout can start all over again.

Unfortunately the range might be much smaller this time around if the coupe and cabriolet are ditched.

I love how Mercedes has such a formidable presence at the high end currently.

It balances out the brand with the likes of the A and CLA at the other end.

I agree, and that what is everyone who said that the CLA was going to kill Mercedes, doesn't seem to understand. The CLA and GLA can't erase what a S Cabriolet or a AMG GT or E63 does on the same showroom floor. Looking at a G65 or a C63 Cabrio or S600 Maybach kills any damage done to the brand by the CLA.

^ Yes, it's the design display upstairs at IAA, and shown in the second part of this vid, starting with the Mercedes-Benz Starship One. :)

That is quite a perceptive response Scott.
This car definitely has a retro-futuristic feeling about it.

There was an Italian art/design movement in the 1980s called Bolidismo. It is a Postmodern retake on 1930s-50s streamlining and 'rocket-age' futurism.

It seems Mercedes is really promotiing their ‘Sensual Purity’Design well; also trying to register the new design language to the mind of the public. This means we can see the next gen S class to follow this design language and Maybach with the similar detailings.

The problem with "Sensual Purity" is that it isn't clearly defined as an original aesthetic. It is marketing more than a design philosophy.

This Maybach is stunning but it isn't so different from conceptual ideas the American motor industry was imagining two decades ago: Retro Futurism - it is nostalgic for a time that never really existed - a past vision of a future world.

Hmmm...

There appears to be a bit of a creased ledge under the side window sills. A sloped hood leading to a deeply positioned grill.
Thin, horizontally accentuated lighting units.

Perhaps we will see a bit of this on the upcoming W223 S-Class. Wild and weird stuff. And exciting as well.

Mercedes-Maybach

In November 2014, Daimler announced the revival of the Maybach name as a sub-brand of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class (W222), positioned as an upscale version akin to the more sporty Mercedes-AMG sub-brand.
