Report: Maybach Brand faces wind down

Yeah, that's pretty nice considering what it is. I still can't get over how dated the core of that interior is, for that price tag. I like classic M-B interiors and would proudly have one in a car, however not one that costs a microscopic fraction of what the Maybach does.

A whole lot of lipstick on that ride, but it's looking good for a Maybach. I'd sure love to be in one, driving or driven on a long distance cruise especially.

The materials and quality are exemplary, but no amount of fantastic material can't hide that it's, literally, last century tech.

And I used to be a Mulsanne detractor, but more pictures I saw the more I like it. In person, it looks very well executed.

Daimler is shuttering Maybach in 2013 after seven years of production. In that time, the company's ultra-ultra-luxury arm managed to sell just 3,000 units, and CAR reports Daimler lost somewhere around US$500,000 on each and every one of them.

Even with a ludicrous price tag of over US$370,000 for an "entry" Maybach 57, the brand couldn't quite recoup the dizzying US$1.33 billion Daimler poured into it since its (re)inception. Rumours ignited over a possible tie up with Aston Martin that would have resulted in a range of new and attractive models, but Daimler has instead decided to snuff out Maybach altogether.

We can hardly blame them.

Mercedes-Benz will pick up the ultra-luxury slack with a new range of sedans based on the S-Class. Those bruisers will likely bow in 2013 just as Maybach turns out the lights for good.

Epic managerial failure. I would like to know how can a company like MB managed to stuff this one up so badly. The market is clearly there for a car like this.

Exactly. Mercedes should not have had any problem with the Maybach. It could be much better than a Rolls with all the high tech and could be a more modern interpretation versus the conservative/traditional/classic interpretation of the Rolls Royce.

Sad thing..they poured that much money into it..but did not have the sense to understand that it needed a unique style and INTERIOR..not a W220 in a tailor made suit..

Failure to say the least.

But i believe they will learn from it..and come back with a super strong Ultra luxury car under the Mercedes name..

No shame in failing..as long as you learn from it!

Mercedes-Maybach

In November 2014, Daimler announced the revival of the Maybach name as a sub-brand of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class (W222), positioned as an upscale version akin to the more sporty Mercedes-AMG sub-brand.
