I do think that it's a bit unfair to compare the two, given Porsche's pedigree, resources, and the fact that the GTS is the ultimate iteration on quite a fine car––whereas the Lotus is still in development. However, I also think that the praise for Emira's looks/design is overstated, and I am completely turned off by its curb weight. A Lotus has to be light or it becomes indistinguishable characterwise from the competition, as we see in these videos. A pity, truly.
But the GTS is the Evora's closest competitor! Should we not compare cars unless they are designed with the exact same budget, development timeline, and engineering targets?
I agree that the weight is a bit of a disappointment but very few people care about curb weight, more care about curb appeal.

EVO UK didn't like it on the track, this will turn into every posers new ride this summer across Europe.
Anglesey Lap Time:
Porsche 992 GT3 Touring (Manual) - 1:13.5 (P Zero Corsa)

From an aesthetic point of view, it’s a league above the GTS. While the Porsche looks like a….Cayman, the Lotus has the design of a super car that’s twice the money,
It’s not perfect but an alternative worth considering over a GTS.
So not much faster than 10 year old base 981 which was probably not on cups?
Cause of the hood vents? To me, at first glance, the vents look like the car is been in a fender bender and is now bend. I do like the looks otherwise.Emira looks like it's been in an accident on the production line.

That's a dry lap I assume...? Also, who was the driver?
No problem. Still, this means it was the Sport spec. Eagle F1 Supersports are about the same as PS4S/PZ4s when it comes to track performance, so the time is still kinda bad. 2.5s slower than 992 Carrera S on PZ4s and only 0.5s faster than the base 981 Cayman on PSSs!Note: Tires used in the test was Goodyear Eagle F1, my mistake. I'm uploading tons of stuff and mixed up tire names.
They're do well in their local Shire, Lotus sells less cars per year than Porsche per day.Besides the funny bonnet vents which make it look like its been bent in a minor bash, I feel the Emira looks great for what it is. Certainly not a kit car vibe by any stretch.
I feel that Lotus ought to do well with this car - the manual, supercharged V6 in touring spec looks to be the sweet spot. I certainly would not say no to one as, judging from the videos, the reception has been very favourable. Would I buy one over a Cayman GTS 4.0? Different story altogether...
Sorry mate, but I think you need new glasses altogether...LOL, take of your British glasses please.
This Lotus looks once more like a f'ing cheap kit car. Terrible. Truly UGLY.
GTS? A 911 992 GTS?
I mean, really? No person outside of England is even going to consider this car, or even know it exists. Lotus is a dead brand, they sell like a 1000 cars a year. Matterless and meaningless, kept alive by British fanboys on the internet and patriotic car press.
It is what it is.
I'd take a 10 year old base 981 over this any day. Emira looks like it's been in an accident on the production line.
You're right: I'm not saying that the comparison is unfair altogether, but I do think that Porsche is in a league of its own nowadays. And I do insist that Emira's design won't age well; too much of a mainstream beauty tbh. Importantly, I'm fanatical about Chapman philosophy of "Simplify, then add lightness." The Emira feels like a betrayal from that perspective. But the GTS is the Evora's closest competitor! Yes, corporations don't have values. But they should stay loyal to their brands to the extent possible, especially when the brand's engineering identity is as iconic as Lotus's. Lotus can't and won't keep up with the likes of Porsche and Ferrari if it goes mainstream. The lightness of a Lotus, its pure handling prowess, are what attract (or did attract) customers to the brand.Funnily enough, Gordon Murray recently announced GMA is working on two electric SUVs - one of which they might even manufacture themselves. Although I do believe they will hit the weight targets for the T.50 and the T.33, it seems that they are equally as happy to work on some battery powered pigs as well (although they, of course, same as Lotus, claim that the SUVs will be much lighter than the competition).
I think it's time to abandon the romantic idea that companies have "values" - they will just make whatever makes them the most money.
