BMW is set to change the way we think about supercars with its Vision EfficientDynamics concept. This swoopy economical machine is estimated to produce around 328 horsepower from its three-cylinder diesel hybrid powertrain, and fuel economy is claimed to be a lofty 62.5 miles per gallon.

While speaking to Inside Line recently, the automaker's sales and marketing director, Ian Robertson, announced that the car will cost roughly €150,000, or about $200,000 USD when it goes on sale. That's indeed a pretty penny, but it's put into perspective when you consider that Mercedes-Benz's upcoming efficient supercar, the SLS E-Cell, is rumored to cost around $250,000.

No official timeframe has been given as to when we'll see the debut of the production-ready EfficientDynamics supercar, but Inside Line states that BMW is sponsoring the 2012 London Olympics, so we should look for the car to debut at that time. It's indeed a vast change from the eight-, ten- and twelve-cylinder hotties that currently make up the supercar segment, but with the changing times putting a larger emphasis on efficiency, BMW's end result should still be pretty sweet.

Would be even nicer if they make a petrol version, a NA one.. even in limited numbers would be better than nothing.

What-so-ever the tag will be... Just bring it on dear Bmw! You have given the Bimmer fans a long torture break which in unpardonable! :D

^What street is that?

Petuelring 130..Munich Germany?

;)

I dont want to spend that amount of cash on a car that doesnt have an engine sound. Keep the car BMW.

Too expensive for something which can´t even match the power of a 1M.

Man when that car hits the streets, you know good and well you and Klier are going to throw a massive party in front of BMW headquarters. Probably have a marching band, orchestra and choir singing the praises of BMW's new Supercars.

I wont. Me and Klier arent in the same league. Im not the same guy I was 5 years ago. When I dont like anything I but my biases aside. As long as this car is electrical I have no intrest in such car. Heck I dont even like the design of this car.

Ok...For the next couple of weeks, I will keep a close eye on your comments in the Audi and Mercedes-Benz threads and see how much "Change" has been made.

Dont try to twist it. That has nothing to do with your post before. In your post above you claimed that I would love that 'supercar' because its a BMW. That's the difference between me today and before, I dont like everything with blue/white badge. Don't throw stones in glasshouse's.

See the issue is we all can say we aren't devoted to these companies, but you can really tell if someone is "less bias" based on how they judge other brands.

As far as a supercar, what is there not to like? This is the time for BMW to shine and for the world to get another expression of automotive engineering at it's best. Any German Car Fan should be proud.

Why celebrate an M1 and not celebrate BMW at there automotive best? It's just like me scream about an SLK yet upset at Benz for building the SLS?

If anything the M1 (or whatever they call it now) should have immediately sent you back to the BMW fan club membership table. Matter of fact you should have been there for early registration.

There is only 1 BMW. The past is the past. Lets move on and Appreciate what BMW has to offer!

Again, Im not the same guy I was 5 years ago. I also appreciate other brands, in fact I have owned a couple of other brands that's not BMW.

Sorry but I cant accept a supercar to have 3-cylinders, no real engine sound and only with 350 hp and looking no good. BMW or not, the future sucks if thats how supercars is going to be. :eusa_doh:

:t-hands: How will the CEO of BMW sleep knowing that you will not be a fan of their supercar?

Hmm...It will be interest to see the comparison.

..or how will you sleep knowing I dont support everything with a BMW badge.

That's right...I forgot you don't like the X6, X5, X3, and X1. Wow. We thankfully I LOVE all things "Benz".

Either way it will be interesting to see how BMW's supercar will look and perform. Glad to see they are thinking ahead.

Plus they way gas prices are going 3 cylinders will probably be a wonderful thing. Wish I had an electric car everytime I take my truck to the pump.
