Audi sat on the sidelines for long enough watching its rivals get the better of it in the SUV game, then it finally jumped in on the action with the Q7, followed by the Q5 and soon the Q3. But even as its crossover range broadens, there's still another mountain to conquer: that of the performance SUV.

Rumors of impending S and RS versions of the Q5 have been milling about for a while now, and have now been given a voice once again courtesy of Car and Driver magazine's source in Germany. Little in the way of details beyond a brief mention were disclosed, but word has it that Audi has registered both the SQ5 and RSQ5 nameplates with copyright authorities. That doesn't mean any such vehicles will ever reach our roads, but if the reports are true, it does at least indicate Audi's giving it serious thought.

Well no doubt they will wait until there's 1 year left of the current models lifespan and then release them ala RS3. Just when the new model is around the corner!

I can see an S version, but not an RS version. That 400hp concept version should be the S version, thats enough. If they do anything further AMG and M will feel compelled to do hi-po versions of the GLK and X3. NO.

Call it a gut feeling but if/when it gets the go ahead I wouldn't expect the SQ5 to get anything different than the same 333ps that the S4/5 already get. :t-hands: After all when you consider the little weight difference between the Q5 and equivalent A4 Avant the chances are that the same 330ps output would be enough to get it to 60mph in around five and a half seconds at least.

Not that I care much for super sporty SUVs but the names SQ5 & RSQ5 simply sound (and look) wrong. They should rather be called Q5 S & Q5 RS.

Ye I agree.
Besides the fact that it´d sound odd, the TT also has the S and RS behind it´s name.

As long as the product was worthy of an S or RS brand then that's all that really matters. Personally I would welcome an S version, though less so an RS model if the reactions to the X?M is anything to go by.

With the introduction of the new Bi-turbo 3.0TDI with it's 313hp, would it be fair to assume that this engine will make it into the Q5 and Q7 very soon, and in turn the Porsche Cayenne and Panamera.

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
