Why do you believe so? If it was so profitable, this car would have been released 5 years ago. Daimler is buying the cells, the inverters and the motors from other companies. It's not like the ICE to have the most expensive components - engine and transmission, produced in-house. I wouldn't be surprised if 3 EQEs bring the same profit as one E class. But we will never get this imformation.

Yep, profit margins are much thinner until battery costs continue to fall further and Mercedes finally brings things in-house. I think it will be very interesting to see how Mercedes manages these EVA2 vehicles as they age. Will they receive an in-house drivetrain come update time or will they be short-run vehicles with a new generation on the evolved MB.EA platform? I think the latter is less likely personally.

Oh, that's easy to answer:
M-B will simply charge customers to the keister for options. It a "German thing". And wouldn't large volume unit sales equate to more option-laden automobiles ? After all, how many "strippo" base M-Bs' does one encounter ? Heck, even the taxicabs aren't total strippos.

But it's the same for their ICE vehicles. AFAIK only the engine and the transmission bring about 1/3 of the profit for a upper-middle class Mercedes. This money is absolutely gone with their EVs. Not to mention maintanence, servicing and spare parts for its lifetime.

I recall having read somewhere that option items/accessory packages can command margins of up to nearly 40%. Of course, you are correct about this applying to ICE vehicles as well. Wouldn't "conquest sales" also be part of the bigger picture equation (initial sales made expanding a client base that will be sustainable, hence paying for future products that command much higher margins for the manufacturer due to decreasing cost of producing and marketing BEVs') ?

I can't see why this should happen with Daimler. What's different with the EQ vehicles marketing? And why the production should be cheaper at Daimler? They are not Tesla and they have all the burden that will make this mission impossible.

Well, the intent is to reduce the cost of R&D, marketing incl. distribution/sales of vehicles and services PLUS the reduction of supply, production and personnel expenditures and the acceleration of the vertical integration process. Please note "intent". Whether M-B will ultimately be successful in the endeavour, I really do not know.

Well, true, but I’m yet to see a €10k optional hyperscreen on an ICE vehicle. That price is ludicrous

The Mercedes EQE (V295) is scheduled to reach customers in mid-2022. There will be a rear-wheel drive variant with 292 hp and 530NM.

It accelerates to 100 km/h in 5.9s and is electronically limited at 210 km/h.

The range is 660 km WLTP (for the time being, as the vehicle is not yet homologated).

The maximum charging speed is 170 kW on the CCS fast core. Thus, you can recharge from 10-80% in 32 minutes about 460 km.

In 15 minutes it is 250 km.

In addition, a second all-wheel drive variant will be presented before the debut in the showroom.

Optionally, the EQE can be equipped with a 22 KW on-board loader (the EQS will also receive it for the change year 2022-1).

However, electrically opening and closing comfort doors are optionally only available at the front of the EQE.

Unfortunately, Mercedes does not yet provide any information on the start of the order. By spring 2022 at the latest, the time should come.

In terms of price, the EQE 350 should probably be positioned between the E 300 (258 hp) and the E 450 4matic (367 hp). That would be around 63,000 EUR gross. This could then also fit the 340 hp BMW i4 eDrive 40 for 59,200 EUR.

The EQE equipment packages are based on the Mercedes EQS.
Here is an overview of the most important packages:

  • The Advanced package includes the Mirror Package, the Adaptive High Beam Assist, the Smartphone Integration Package and the Customization Package with additional vehicle functions that are unlocked via over-the-air (OTA) technology. Thanks to the display package, a 12.3-inch driver and a 12.8-inch central display are on board. Other components include flush door handles, the wireless charging system for mobile devices and the smartphone integration package. This makes it possible to use Android Auto and Apple Car Play via the central display of the EQE.
  • The Advanced Plus package includes the memory package in addition to the Advanced package. This allows the settings of the front seats and the steering column and exterior mirrors to be saved. Another important component is the assistance package with Blind Spot Assist and Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC. A storage compartment under the centre console and illuminated door entry strips, ambient lighting and an electric charging flap are further equipment details. Thanks to the KEYLESS-GO Comfort Package, the EQE can be conveniently started and locked by the driver carrying only the key.
  • The premium package raises the EQE to a top level of equipment. The equipment details in addition to the contents of the Advanced and Advanced Plus packages: Active ambient lighting, parking package with 360° camera, DIGITAL LIGHT, MBUX Augmented Reality for navigation and the Driving Assistance Package Plus.
  • The Premium Plus package offers even more convenience. In addition to the contents of the Advanced packages and the Premium package, it includes DIGITAL LIGHT with projection function, KEYLESS-GO with automatic comfort doors at the front, Burmester® surround sound system with sound experiences and MBUX entertainment, head-up display and automatic climate control THERMOTRONIC, USB package Plus and the ENERGIZING package including AIR-BALANCE package.
