GLB (X247) [Renders] 2019 Mercedes GLB

The Mercedes-Benz GLB (X247) is a crossover SUV produced by Mercedes-Benz. The GLB is positioned between the GLA and the larger GLC in size, however unlike these vehicles the GLB is equipped with optional third row seating due to better space distribution. Production: July 2019–2026. Model years: 2020–2026.
From the above pic of the orange coloured crash test prototype (post #108), it does seem to have this kink in the rear door.

You can see how the glasshouse rises at the rear door. So at a guess the renders are highly accurate.

Does anyone sense disappointment? They could have and should have made it more like a smaller G-Klasse. Tough, chunky and positioned well in the segment that many would see it as such. Sadly it appears to be more conventional than defining.

No. As it’s going to be a staple of the lineup it needs to fit in with the presiding design idiom. Overt pillaging of the iconic G-class design would have been gimicky and hard to evolve generation to generation. There’s also the risk of damaging the iconic status of the G with a vehicle that is clearly not cut from the same DNA.

I was definitely hoping for something chunkier and tougher. But this could be do consumer testing- even Jeep strayed away from making their Renegade offering too blocky. Further, back when Jeep had both the blocky Patriot and the similarly dismal last-generation Compass, the Compass always outsold it. So maybe there's some logic in the design here.

This GLB is going to make the GLA irrelevant until a new GLA arrives and maybe even then so, because it looks like you can actually use the cargo hold in the GLB.

I think they have an opportunity to evolve the GLA a bit more by making it more sporty.

I agree. It will be interesting to see how the A/CLA and GLB/GLA sell when they're all sitting on the same showroom floor in the U.S. Same thing with the CLS and AMG GT 4-door. I think MBUSA should be able to do 30K a month overall once the new GLE and GLS come online too.

That’s true, when A-Class Sedan & GLB hit the market it’ll be difficult for CLA & GLA to keep up the pace as both A sedan & GLB more practical in all means.

Simple, since no more Huckfeldt renders, Autobild has been all over the place with its renders. Huckfeldt's renders were some of the best in the industry, realistic and close to production. Not always 100% and sometimes only 50% but he improved on his renders as time passed and was usually close.

Larson has usually wild ideas and designs in his renders, more angular and radical than what the cars would look like.

Reichel is well, Reichel, he can create some good renders but they are usually nothing exciting. He has improved but he is no huckfeldt.

Then there's Avarvarii, he has the skill and can create some pretty decent and realistic renders. But I don't think he always has access to photos from design clinics or inside design studies since a lot of his renders are not even close to the final design. There are instances when he is very close, usually a concept turned into a production car but usually the small details that make the real car are lost in translation.

Finally there is Automedia, they provide spy photos and renders but I have no idea who does their renders, maybe it is one person or perhaps a couple, but their renders lack cohesion and they all feel different. Some are good but most are mediocre and lack any polish.

There is also Julien Jodry, he works for auto moto and his stuff is pretty good but he seems to focus more on french brands since auto moto is a french magazine, but his non french car renders are pretty good and quite nice.

There are some other people for sure like radovan varicak and his stuff does appear on autobild, but his renders are way out there in terms of design. I'm sure I am missing some. thanks for reading.

edit, forgot x-tomi. Fan of his work, Rarely creates new models or does major renders, usually quick edits, like amg version or M versions of base models. Sometimes does cabrios, coupes and wagons. Usually creates pretty realistic renders, which is always nice to see.

Mercedes GLB Shown To U.S. Dealers, Coming Q4 2019

The "baby G-Class" reminded one dealer of the GLK's boxiness.

It was roughly four years ago when first reports emerged about the possibility of a G-Class-inspired GLB that would slot between the GLA and the GLC. Since the beginning of 2018, several batches of spy shots have been published to confirm the rumor about a boxy crossover part of Mercedes’ extended compact car lineup. New intel reveals the GLB was shown recently to dealers in the United States as a pre-production model alongside the A-Class Sedan, another new car heading to the U.S.

During the meeting, dealers learned about the crossover’s standard five-seat layout, with an optional seven-seat arrangement to be available as well. Upon seeing official images of the GLB, one dealer said the boxy crossover “reminded me a little of the boxiness of the GLK. It's a functional, small SUV, more of a people mover, whereas the GLA is sportier.”

The “baby G-Class” as it has been described will ride on the same MFA2 platform as the new A-Class hatchback and all of the other front-wheel-drive-based compact cars Mercedes is planning to launch in the next few years. Production of the GLB will probably take place in Aguascalientes, Mexico at a new factory resulting from a tie-up between Daimler and Nissan. The U.S. version is scheduled to go on sale in the last quarter of 2019. No word on pricing, but an educated guess would be anywhere between the $33,400 GLA and the $40,050 GLC.
