R-Class R-Class Facelift

The Mercedes-Benz R-Class (W251) is a mid-size luxury MPV introduced by Mercedes-Benz in 2005 for the 2006 model year. The R-Class shared its platform with the M-Class (W164) and GL-Class (X164) and was available in two wheelbase lengths: standard 2,980 mm (117.3 in) and long 3,215 mm (126.6 in).
Wow...it's just 2 percent of the car showing in that photo. How do we know for sure it's the SLK (Probably is but just in case it isn't)?

But you probably right. It will probably just be a mini SLS without the special doors. Just like the last one copied off the SLR. Only thing is I was hoping that MB would take a different approach this time. Something drastic and special for the little wonder they call the SLK.

The more spy pics I see, the more confident I become that the new R-Class FL will, at last, have a nice, appealing and decent front design. Can't wait to see it unveiled!

Looks like a great facelift for the R-Class. It "defuse" the front and make it more dynamic and it harmonise much better to the rest of the car.

damn, that's one ugly pathetic try to make this car look good. Seriously, they're taking steps back in terms of design with this car, at least the pre FL was interesting, this is just a big B.

^ lol

The front of this facelift looks very well resolved this time. Pretty, almost.

I like the improvements. But, overall the reason US buyers don't like the R is the general asthetics of the vehicle. This FL doesn't do much for this. I was hoping they would flatten out the hood and give it a few rugged features.

Just changing the lights and the side mirrors should help though. I hope they spruce up the inside.

Word is the R will be discontinued after 2013.

I wouldn't tuning in the death clock for the R-Class just yet. Expect Mercedes to keep a very close eye on the sales of the 5-Series GT which is a highly similar car. If it turns out to be a moderate success then you can be sure to see the R-Class develop into something similar. Very much the same way BMW heavily studied the R-Class while developing the 5-Series GT.

It's a cat and mouse game with both manufacturers learning off each other. The X6 is a replica of the CLS and the GLK is a replica of the X3.
