It's a last ditch effort it looks like to save sales and maybe save the successor. If sales don't pick up then we probably won't see a fully redesigned R.

But when is this "facelift" going to come. I didn't see anything about it on the 2010 update from Mercedes that we get here at the dealer.

The 2010 year is largely unchanged; I've seen the dealer ordering guide. However, this new FL will probably come to the states around summer 2010, in time for the 2011 model year. This would mean an R facelift would have to debut at Frankfurt, Detroit, or Geneva; my money's on IAA.

Why is Merc not rushing the F/L...They sold 39 last month, every Month is a permannet Deathbed for the R class...Maybe Merc just want 2 kill it off and sell whay invntory they have..

The thing is... they buy R-Classes to boost sales numbers; then modify them and test them for the FL. This way, testing FL-models increases the sales... ...
And maybe they don't even plan to ever release the FL, they are just covering exixting cars with camo to keep interests in the media for that car...

Starting to come out of the SLS hangover....so we've got the R, CLS and E-Class Cabrio all coming soon. Can't wait. Hopefully they've done something with the interior of the R-Class. Mercedes won't give up on the R it seems.

Lol...Yea...MB has some hope for that fella. Hmm...Maybe some hybrid technology might help it as well, but I doubt it.

Glad they got rid of those combo package headlights.

That new front is actually not bad at all. If they also improved the finish and done somethinh to the utterly rubbish modularity/seat combination, they could save the car.

Why they didn't do that for the first FL is totally beyond me...

Well that first facelift was a panic one, not a scheduled one. The car flopped so badly on the market that they had to do something right away. What we're seeing now is the facelift that was planned from the start.

You nailed it.

The finish of the ML and R are rubbish compared to the German MB's. The psuedo leather dash of the GL helps a bit in that respect.

The practicality of the car also leaves a lot to be desired and isn't really that innovative and easy to modulate. The Japanese do it better.

I'm not sure there really was a facelift...there was the AMG package (made standard) and a new steering wheel, as well as an upgraded diesel engine. To me, that doesn't qualify as a facelift; more like MY changes.

The FL looks much more modern, toned down, and more mainstream instead of quirky.
