What an awesome final, damn after 80min it was a nail biting match, France gave a massive fight to Argentina. The penalties were all for Argentina and they deserved to win the World Cup, they were just a cut above France. Messi is a master.

Objectively there are reasons why Qatar doesn't make much sense, and that's quite well demonstrated by the fact it had to bribe FIFA to get the competition in the first place.

Even if you defend Qatar's human rights and democracy issues, choosing a country that has to spend hundreds of billions on infrastructure, and having to move the time of the tournament into the regular season to NOT risk player and spectator health, when that country doesn't really have much of its own footballing heritage or fan base - makes very little sense.

That doesn't mean they didn't do a good job, and I'm pleased they didn't have to put up with absolutely shameful displays of f#ck-wittery by complete bell-ends like this:

USA politics, issues and racism is virtually daily news here anyway. How much its amplified by the World Cup we'll have to wait and see... I suspect how vitriolic the criticism is will depend on which party the President will represent by then, but it's not like the world is blind to America's problems.

Beyond the autocracy with which some topics are handled in Qatar, the cordiality, hospitality with which they treated everyone, the stories of the fans and the desire to be known by their people, to give and give beyond money, sharing and enjoying that the world analyzes them more and appreciates them is indisputable, people working hard for their country, perhaps the clash of cultures will also serve as an advance in solving what is wrong there today.
