Movies Prometheus -> Alien: Covenant -> ? -> Alien

6.5/10, Ridley scott yet again missing an occasion to deliver a solid movie. This movie doesn't know what it wants to be. A direct sequel to promotheus focusing on the engineers (which i so much wanted), a classic Xenomorph movie or a philosophical essay on the essence of creation and men. The result is a movie yet f#cking again filled with holes, completely ignoring the logical narrative progression set by promotheus and very predicatble at times. Good points ? Sublime photography as usual (man that intro and those landscapes) and Michael f#cking Fassbender who should have been much more present (apart from the engineers, the movie could have been so much better if it focused more on the Walter/David interaction).

You want more "I will do the fingering, you do the blowing"

Watched the movie tonight, the most uncomfortable scene for me was that one scene without any Aliens.
You want more "I will do the fingering, you do the blowing"
Too much and too deliberate of a line IMO.

I watched it yesterday with some family and friends. Neither of us enjoyed it. I thought parts of the story were too weird and the CG was lacking during some scenes. The end was highly predictable as well.

I though the engineers part was the best one of Prometheus. I was expecting this to be a big part of Covenant. I did not like how it was dealt with.

Well that was too heavy and that kiss errk. David character was much more ambivalent in the first movie, now he's turned into a complete predicatble villain, less enjoyable to watch but then again this could have been handled better if he had more screen time with walter to let us see the progression, he he could have explained the f#cking zillions virus's possible mutations and transmission modes. And why didn't they show what happened to Walter in the end, it was very predicatble that David would take his place at the spaceship anyway.

Will let everybody see it before launching into Spoiler territory in full debate.
However having being released they now advertise for home release.

There has always been that homo-erotic vibe within each Alien movie. The creature itself is very phallic and each stage of gestation is considered to be erotic because of its fear of penetration. If we consider the series then whoever got the worse death it had to be Lambert. The panicking and scared crew member who was the audiences fear. When we see the Alien stalking her she is fully clothed. The Aftermath shows she is naked which suggests something else completely terrifying for the character.

.
One thing noticed within Covenant is that David's curiosity and movement is evident within the first creature which would suggest a genetic imprint on this next batch of creatures that there could be over 2000 of them. And we still have to get to that bio mechanical stage of the creature.

4/10 ......felt like I've seen the movie before snippets from every alien movie out there. Too predictable nothing new. It was extremely overhyped and unfortunately wasn't as good as the first instalment.

Agreed, though a 4/10 is a bit too low imo

Everybody seen it?

Good time to debate...And debate we shall.:D

Would've liked to see a proper sequel movie to Prometheus instead of the < 3 minutes The Crossing (part of the promotional short films making the Prologue); missed opportunity IMHO.

According to Scott, originally there was to be a movie between Prometheus and Alien: Covenant.
Scott explained "It will go Prometheus, Awakening, Covenant". In May 2017, Scott revealed that Alien: Awakening was originally the name of Neill Blomkamp's since-cancelled Aliens sequel.

Alien (franchise) - Wikipedia

I think the movie you are referring to is completely separate from the Scott saga mark.

It was (if the name for a sequel Alien 5 was to be named Awakening) but according to the info, Scott was able to stop it as it was not aligning with the prequels planned; and latest is that Neill Bloomkamp's Alien 5 has been permanently shelved.

Here's the entire quote:
In September 2015, Ridley Scott revealed he was planning two sequels to Prometheus, which would lead into the first Alien film, even adding: "Maybe [there will] even [be] a fourth film before we get back into the Alien franchise."[74][75] In November 2015, Scott confirmed that Alien: Covenant would be the first of three more films before linking up with original Alien, thus starting a new trilogy of sci-fi films,[53][76] and stated that Prometheus sequels will reveal who created the xenomorph Aliens.[77] According to an interview with Scott that took place on the set of Alien: Covenant in 2016, Scott had the screenplay for the third prequel film written while working on Alien: Covenant, so that he could "be ready to go again next year". Scott also mentioned the revived franchise could go on for even longer than previously mentioned; "If you really want a franchise, I can keep cranking it for another six. I'm not going to close it down again. No way", said Scott.[78] In March 2017, Scott stated that if Alien: Covenant and the film that would follow it are successful, he has plans for another three Alien films. Scott explained "It will go Prometheus, Awakening, Covenant".[79] In May 2017, Scott revealed that Alien: Awakening was originally the name of Neill Blomkamp's since-cancelled Aliens sequel.[80][not in citation given]

I was wondering if anyone here saw this movie.
Never paid attention to this thread. Anyway, I didn't see it because if the poor ratings it received. This franchise has run its course I think.

Well, well, well. It seems hollywoods studios know jack shit as the home release of Alien Covenant inserts something that makes absolute sense of the film in its entirety and continues that lying underneath ominous element which has worked throughout the Franchise and begins to lay the pathway to the original film.

S P O I L E R
The "Covenant" was not a colonisation mission.
