Following the trend of spacious coupes with more than the traditional two doors, we expect BMW to release an all-new super luxury car to cap its line. The new range-topping four-door coupe will target Mercedes-Benz’s CLS and Porsche’s Panamera, both also four-door coupes. The car will most likely come as a 2009 model year, and shares exterior similarities with the CS Concept revealed at Shanghai earlier this year.

BMW is expected to bring the new car in as the 8-series, although the new car shares very little in common with the long-gone 8-series that roamed the globe from 1990-1999. One of the few similarities that is likely will be the V12 powerplant under the hood - although the original 8-series’ six-speed manual will likely be replaced with a dual-clutch gearbox. The new CS-based 8-series is also expected to be targeted even further up-market than the original.
As the photos show, the lines of the car give a sense of purpose and speed, and also work to minimize the rather large stature of the car. The styling certainly aligns well with rumored M-variants or possibly even a Z-badge for the car, although BMW has yet to stick the sports-car reserved Z-badge on anything larger than the Z8, which is comparatively diminutive. Huge intakes and aggressive sheetmetal certainly indicate the car will be intended for performance as much as luxury, no matter what moniker the car receives.
Prices for top-of-the-line models should exceed BMW’s highest-end 7-series, which can run up to $150,000. And although it’s expected to be available as a 2009 model year car, there is no word on actual release dates or specs yet.

I thought I read somewhere (and possibly everyone's assumption) that this will not be available until 2012? 2009=coming out late next year, right? I wonder why they would mention its anticipated availability for the calendar year of '09...

Re: Preview: 2009 BMW four-door coupe

They have wrong info, there's no way this car will be 2009 MY.

:t-cheers:

Re: Preview: 2009 BMW four-door coupe

Yeah, I agree. If anything, the F01 7er will be available as a '09 model in late 2008 in the U.S.

The CS will not arrive so soon, sadly.

Re: Preview: 2009 BMW four-door coupe

Damn these journalists! :chair6fm:In addition to the wrong info this particular journalist is even able to contradict himself/herself.

The new range-topping four-door coupe will target Mercedes-Benz’s CLS...

Prices for top-of-the-line models should exceed BMW’s highest-end 7-series, which can run up to $150,000.

So if it's positioned higher than 7 Series then how the hell can it target CLS? :all_cohol

Re: Preview: 2009 BMW four-door coupe

^^^ Yep. It's because this article is written by a retard journalist with no clue about what's happening.

Re: Preview: 2009 BMW four-door coupe

haha.man, this guy has issues :D .BMW with price tag around 150k $ to fight MB CLS :eusa_doh:??

Re: Preview: 2009 BMW four-door coupe

Maybe that is what the new 5 Series is going to look like.

Re: Preview: 2009 BMW four-door coupe

Maybe that is what the new 5 Series is going to look like.

I seriously doubt it. This design may just be reserved for the CS concept only, b/c it will stand as the flagship model and therefore must clearly stand out from the rest. The latter years will produce similarities I am sure, but not this.

Re: Preview: 2009 BMW four-door coupe

The chop is really handsome, if it turns like that (which seems probable) it will be a really interesting product.
Of course, neither 2009 nor CLS-targetting...

I don't like the big eyelids though.
And the front seems too unprotected, a bit like Audi or Peugeot...Hope you/the car next to yours don't bump it while parking or it will cost you $$$$$.

I think BMW will reduce the big [] [] and protect them a bit better in the production car, other than that I think it could look like that. Which means beautiful.:usa7uh:

Re: Preview: 2009 BMW four-door coupe

I wish one of our insiders answer my one and only question, will the rear flared wheel arch (or what its called) make it into production of the next 7er ? I mean the soulder line that discontinues and raises a little above the rear wheel. I really like it and think it is a nice touch in future BMWs. Unfortunetly I asked this question many times before but no precise answer yet

Re: Preview: 2009 BMW four-door coupe

Rendered Speculation: BMW 8 Series

The Mercedes CLS four door coupe is currently fighting a solo battle with no competition - but now is the time for Daimler to be looking over their shoulders. Preparation is well under way by their German competitors with the Audi A7, Volkswagen Passat Coupe, Porsche Panamera and now we bring you an artists interpretation of the BMW four door coupe which will probably be badged as the 8 series.

The All New BMW 8 series styling will be based on the CS concept with the platform to come from the 7 series or even possibly the 6 series.
The original 8 series was produced between 1989 and 1999 and was powered by a V8 and a V12 engine. We expect this trend to continue with the new model set to use the 438hp 6.0-liter V-12 engine from the 760i and 4.8-liter V8 from the 750i.

If I am mr. Lehmann, I will kill myself. :t-banghea This guy is really stupid. :t-crazy2:

Re: Preview: 2009 BMW four-door coupe

Wow! Didn't see that side profile...:icondrool

Call me crazy but that thing from the side actually looks good!

Re: Preview: 2009 BMW four-door coupe

The way the rear lights "ledge" on the body work and sweep round the car are very reminiscent of the rear of the F10 5er.

The proposed "8er" as they say it will be called... Will be a carbon coby identikit of the CS Concept . Even though in early 2008 BMW will invite media to drive and familar themselves with the CS Concept at a private BMW track .
Wait till you see this car move it has a definite "get out of my way" aura about it.

Previews like this always indicate that it is time to whet more of the public's attitude to the CS and are therefore we are looking for as much debate as possible to help how the car will develop and how we market it.
As I have said before "Debate equals maximum publicity"

Re: Preview: 2009 BMW four-door coupe

Milk mustache grill looks outdated. Its supposed to have CS style grill.

Re: Preview: 2009 BMW four-door coupe

That instantly reminds me of the Citroen C6. I don't like it because of that.

BTW, why is it that all these freaking automobile sites keep reporting that the next 7er, X6, 5er, etc will all have the current 4.8 V8???? Are they ALL that stupid and clueless?

And how it really will be called, Scott?
