I'm bit confused as to whether the E Cabrio will debut at IAA or Geneva. I remember Dr Z saying at Geneva that the E Cabrio would debut @IAA- but this could've changed.

W.O. Bentley wanted to create a car at the pinnacle of motoring. Something large, fast, refined and comfortable. This philosophy resonates deeply at Bentley and has, over time, created a legacy that exemplifies these qualities: record-breaking feats, daring exploits and a host of exquisitely handcrafted and beautifully engineered cars. Now, 90 years later, the all-new flagship Bentley Mulsanne embodies W.O. Bentley’s passion. It is a powerful and elegant driver’s car like nothing else on the road. In introducing this car, Chairman and Chief Executive Dr Franz-Josef Paefgen stated:
"The challenge we set our engineers was to create a grand new Bentley that would stand as the pinnacle of British luxury motoring, offering the world’s most exclusive driving experience. They have responded to this challenge with real passion, and the result is a luxury grand tourer that sets new standards in terms of comfort, effortless performance and handcrafted refinement – the very qualities for which Bentley is renowned."

The Mulsanne name reflects Bentley’s sporting pedigree and unique association with Le Mans, where we have been victorious six times. This famous corner at the end of the straight is synonymous with the Bentley marque. Few places offer a stronger or more emotive connection with Bentley than the famed Mulsanne corner.

The Mulsanne will go on sale from mid 2010. It will next be displayed in the IAA Frankfurt Motor Show (15 - 27th September, 2009) where further information will be revealed about this car.

I hope MB brings some kind of concept other then the SLS eletric car. Maybe an updated Maybach or F800...something interesting. I think BMW is going to unleash some major cars...I hope Benz has something planned...I would hate to just see a E-class wagon and the SLS (after waiting so long, I have become bored with this car).

This is going to be some show. Mercedes, BMW and Audi will be brining everything they got. It would be nice indeed if Mercedes brought something we don't already know about.

They probably will. Remember, there's still more than three weeks left until IAA. As I recall, the F700 in 2007 was teased only about a week before the debut. If this is the case this year, than we may not hear word about an MB concept until we get closer to IAA. There's also been some rumors about a 2011 CLS concept being shown...

Here's what could be shown for MB at IAA:

2011 SLS AMG Gullwing
2012 SLS AMG eDrive Concept
2010 E-Class Wagon
2010 E-Class Cabriolet
Possible F Concept Research Car
2010 E class new BlueEfficency engines unveiled earlier this month.
Possible CLS concept.
New Hybrid models
New Alternative-Fuel Models
New Diesel Models
Others that we do not yet know about.

Absolutely.

We will be there to report live :)

We have instructed Daimler to remove this from their promotional material as BMW own this insignia. We have instructed Audi to remove "Metro" from the A1 "MetroProject" because we still own the name "Metro".

No, really. Well, more like during some of the Wiesmann engineers will put the finishing touches on a GT MF4 during the Frankfurt Motor Show introduction of the brand's new BMW V10-powered GT MF5 Roadster. But still, that's different. Why are they doing this? "Only this way we will be able to show our manufacturing skills and our productive efficiency to the exhibition-visitors, the customers, and the media-exponents. Like in Duelmen [where Wiesmann's factory is located] everyone can take a look at our work in Frankfurt." So says business manager Friedhelm Wiesmann. Hey, why not?

We'll be there to watch the build live, but in case you can't make, Auto Motor und Sport will be streaming the event live on the web. Hey, again, why not? Full press release after the jump, which includes the highly memorable line, "the Duelmen manufacturer will mount a car during the car-exhibition." Oh, those kinky Germans.

Press Release

Wiesmann is building a sports-car on the IAA

Wiesmann, the luxury sports car maker, surprises the visitors of the most important car-exhibition in Frankfurt with a special feature. In addition to the announced world premiere of the Wiesmann Roadster MF5, the Duelmen manufacturer will mount a car during the car-exhibition. "On this way we will be able to show our manufacturing skills and our productive efficiency to the exhibition-visitors, the customers, and the media-exponents. Like in Duelmen everyone can take a look at our work in Frankfurt", says business manager Friedhelm Wiesmann. During the building-process of the GT MF4 with a 4.8 litre 367 horse-power engine, two members of the staff will finish the work on the car. Sports-car-fans from all over the world will be able to join that event on a digital webcam. The logistic for this one very special event has already started because the montage had to start back in Duelmen.

Wiesmann is also very exited about finding two major partners for this event. The magazine auto motor und sport (IAA 2009 - Internationale Automobil-Ausstellung in Frankfurt - auto motor und sport) will act as media partner and will broadcast the event website. Beyond that the tool-manufacturer Festool who will provide the tools needed for the car-building.

Wiesmann is exhibiting at Booth B18 in Hall 5.

Frankfurt Preview: Lexus LF-Ch joins Toyota Auris Hybrid, plug-in Prius and two iQ

With just a few weeks left before the Frankfurt Motor Show kicks off in high gear, Lexus has decided its high time to let loose a single teaser image of its hotly anticipated hybrid hatchback concept. The C-Segment model carries the LF-Ch designation and not the recently trademarked CT nameplate as first thought, making us wonder if there's something else up the automaker's corporate sleeve in the near future.

"Think BMW 1 Series, but hybrid." That's how Lexus describes the LF-Ch, and you could easily add the Audi A3 and Volvo C30 to that list of competitors. Underhood will be some form of Toyota's Hybrid Synergy Drive, though the Japanese automaker has yet to release any actual powertrain details beyond that. Expect a more detailed explanation of the car's finer points in the run up to Frankfurt.

Across the showroom floor in Toyota's display will be the Auris HSD concept – which Toyota says is the first application of its hybrid technology in a mainstream model... other than the Prius, we presume – along with a plug-in version of its third-generation 2010 Prius and two separate concepts based on the diminutive iQ. Click past the break for the official press release and see the whole shebang in our gallery below.

Toyota at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show

PRESS RELEASE:

Toyota at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show

- World Premiere of the Auris HSD Full Hybrid Concept
- New Prius Plug-in Hybrid Concept, European Premiere of the new Land Cruiser
- iQ show cars (iQ for Sports and iQ Collection)

The first Toyota highlight for the Frankfurt Motor Show will be the World Premiere of the Auris HSD Full Hybrid Concept. This represents a milestone in Toyota's strategy: introducing Toyota's full hybrid technology to a mainstream model, and the first step in the deployment of Hybrid Synergy Drive (HSD) across the company's model range.

The new Prius Plug-in Hybrid Concept will also make its World debut in Frankfurt.
Prius Plug-in Hybrid expands the capabilities of Toyota's full hybrid technology (HSD), enabling pure electric operation for short-range day-to-day transportation.

In early 2010, an extensive field trial in Europe will see over 150 units being leased to selected fleet customers.

Frankfurt will also stage the European Premiere of the iconic, all-new Toyota Land Cruiser, which will go on sale in the 4th quarter of 2009.

Finally, two customised iQ show cars (iQ for Sports and iQ Collection) will give a glimpse of a future 'iQ World' and demonstrate the possibility for customers to personalise their cars.

The Toyota stand is located in Hall 8 of the Frankfurt Motor Show exhibition centre, where the Toyota press conference will take place on Tuesday, 15 September at 15h30.

Frankfurt 2009 Preview: Maserati GranCabrio unveiled!

44d41f2e1b8964b09c80327058b15c1f.webp

After what seems like years of eager anticipation, and with the weeks ticking down until the Frankfurt Motor Show, Maserati has finally unveiled its long-awaited convertible model. With the Maserati GranCabrio, it looks like the Italian automaker has done a beautiful job of translating the Pininfarina-designed GranTurismo into an open-top machine.

The questions on all our minds as we saw an endless stream of heavily-disguised test mules were whether the new convertible would have a fabric or metal roof, retain its four seats or sacrifice the back row (like its predecessor, the Spyder), and which engine would be found under that long hood.

Now we've got our answers. Unlike the Ferrari California, the GranCabrio features a cloth roof that deploys over the four-place passenger compartment, saving both weight and space. In fact, it's the first four-seat convertible in the company's history, and boasts what Maserati says is the longest wheelbase on the market. The Trident marque has also chosen to fit the convertible with the 4.7-liter 433-hp V8 from the GranTurismo S, bypassing the base 4.2-liter unit and mating it to the highly-rated ZF six-speed automatic. The new Maser's public debut is scheduled for the Frankfurt show next month
