Z Series Premiere: The all new BMW Z4 sDrive35is

The BMW Z models are a line of roadsters manufactured by German automaker BMW. The Z stands for Zukunft (German for future), and has been produced in four different series with six generations consisting of roadster, coupé, sports car, and concept variants. The introduction of the M Coupé and M Roadster in the Z3 line marked the first of the Z series to have a high-performance BMW M variant. The first generation Z4 also continued to offer M Coupé and M Roadster variants. The current Z4 (G29) uses BMW's (B58B30) inline-six, its platform is the basis for the current Toyota Supra.
I don't think anybody thought it would be.

Really? I don't ever remember reading that.

Found the post:

The manual was requested by BMW North America and seeing as this was the largest market for M models , They gave it the go ahead but in Munich and indeed the M Division have completely disowned the manual M5 and M6 because it does not accomodate well with the car - more hype than actual purpose.

The reason why BMW will not offer the manual in the current E60 and also the fact that the E60 M5 is all about a symbolic relationship with the BMW F1 programme in our marketing with the SMG transmission.

That is why the next M5 will not only be offered with a new upgraded version of the Dual Clutch Transmission or M-DCT.
But will also be developed with a from-the-ground-up manual rather than a conventional hand-me-down gearbox transplant.

Even Gerhard Richter dislikes the manual E60 M5. He say it is not right for the car. He actually had the balls to say that when questioned at the US press launch.

I personally prefer the SMG because I can just shift into Drive for tedious short journeys plus having the Touring is great especially with all the room in the back especially if you have to get to a press launch with the boot laden with press kits in another country, plus it gets mistaken for a regular Touring with M-Packet until it leaves them dead with that symphonic exhaust tone from the V10 using it's full 507 horse power orchestra.

I think they learned that lesson with E60. The US which is still probably the biggest market for M cars demands a manual. Which is why probably E92/90 M3 got a manual from the beginning.

^ Yet there are none of the complaints like there were for the E60 M5 manual. Some reviewers didn't like it. If it's like E92 for the F10 M5 too, having a manual transmission not only as an afterthought is an awesome back to basic approach for people like Bartek Sikorski!

I hate posting AutoLies pictures because they have so much do-do attached to them, but this one was just too good to pass up.

the Z4 sdrive35iS nomenclature still baffles the mind. I wont be suprised if it was put together by the same guy who who came up with "Windows Mobile 7 Phone Series".

Either way, this car is seks on wheels.

Best looking BMW on sale I think....only the M3 Coupe and Convertible compare. Can't wait to see the new 5er.

Hilarious.:t-cheers:

Agree Merc1, this car and the M3 coupe are my two favorites. I think the F12 will be more dynamic and better looking than the F10 which is an "understated design" (very nice though).
