E-Class (W212) Pre-Official: W212 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

The W212 and S212 Mercedes-Benz E-Class series is the fourth generation of the E-Class range of executive cars which was produced by Mercedes-Benz between 2009 and 2016 as the successor to the W211 E-Class. The body styles of the range are either four-door sedan/saloon (W212) or a five-door estate/wagon (S212).

What are you talking about? The cabin space has increased in all ways possible. No reverse engineering has been made here. Rather then enlarging the body of the car MB has mostly focused on efficiency, making best possibly use of the space in side the car.
The new 7er has about the same dimensions as the S-class but yet offer a bigger boot and a more spacious interior. Exterior dimension isn't everything.
Yes I find this very peculiar and somewhat disturbing actually. The W211 was already smaller then the 5 and A6. Ofcourse the new 5 and A6 will be larger yet again, meaning the W212 might get left behind in terms of interior spaciousness.
In fact quite a few of the rear seat dimensions seem to have actually decreased in this w212, which I'm finding very difficult to understand. The only real improvment over the w211 is width of the rear accomodations.

Yeah I saw that one before. Hopefully the dimension isn't there because MB have something to hide.
As a taxi car it would be devastating if the leg room in the rear has shrunk as the E is a very popular VIP car.

Exactly. Why have they ommited the figure. Conveniently? And more importantly why have any of the rear seat dimensions decreased in any case. The seat base size is down 0.4cm (not 4cm Klier) and the distance from the seat base to the floor is down 1.2cm. This is not good. That one key dimension that they have ommited would give the complete story.
If there was one area the w211 lacked, it was rear seat space. I would have expected a nice improvement in rear seat space, and at worst no change. MB's trump card after all is COMFORT!

Well I would have to saw that this car doesn't WOW me.
Yes, it is a Mercedes-Benz, but the over all shape is not a good as the S-class or even the C. The interior looks fantastic, but everything from that rear seats (exterior) on takes nasty turn.
Maybe seeing it in person might help, but I doubt it. I'd still rather the S or the 2010 CLS. Seems like this design was rushed.

regarding diminisions.
Rear seat room should have been very high on the chart for the design of this new E. If not, then MB has slipped worse than I thought. But from what I see, is the new E has more driver's leg room, which means most drivers will be able to position the seat further forward, and thus creating more rear seat room.
I was always dissapointed in the 211 because it was less comfortable in the back seat than the 210. I can remember in 1998-2002 having people looking at a Lexus LS, and consider a 210 E-class because of the great cabin space. That ended when the 211 came out.
My other question is about the new front seat. The early spy pics showed it to be quite bulky, which can also infringe on rear seat knee room.
I find it hard to imagine that a car could grow in wheelbase and not gain rear leg room. The pics on this car show it will have much more volume with the boxy greenhouse.

after the last pix..the lights dont look huge to me anymore..
The rear is huge..so it compensates for the big lights
So i like it very much so far..
