M5 Powerupgrade for your M5

The BMW M5 is a high-performance variant of the BMW 5 Series marketed under the BMW M sub-brand. M5 models have been produced for every generation of the 5 Series since 1984, with occasional gaps in production (1995 to 1998, 2023 to 2024). Official website: BMW M

In the latest issue of BMW Car Magazine they are testing a M5 with a power upgrade from DMS.

"The end result is 548bhp/555nm /345km/h ... The most notable gains being at around 3500rpm to 4500rpm where the car produces 80nm more than the original car..."

They measured:
0-100km >>> 4.45seconds
0-160km >>> 9.32seconds

Sidenote 345km/h must be theoretical. Sounds too much for me.

We're talking about M5 here, man... Nothing is too much for that car, especially a 345km/h speed... ;)

:t-cheers:

Doesn't seem that far-fetched. BMW claim that without the speed-limiter, that a stock M5 would hit around 330km/h, so adding about about 50HP and 50Nm would certainly raise that figure a few notches.

Hope that comes with some Ceramic brakes.

Not to be a smart-arse, but the Gallardo and F430 still have faster 0-100km/h times than the tuned M5. :D

How were the power gains achieved? More fuel or more displacement or more RPM? Or a combination of the aforementioned?

I dont know but the car was tested in BMW car magazine , perhaps you have it where you live?

I have seen the magazine on shelves, though we'll probably only get this issue in a month's time.

DMS Automotive says this:

The BMW M5 our ECU Re-map gives increased power and smoother up shifts by mapping a softer cut in the rev limiter. Also mid range response is improved in both standard and sport modes.

So, it just looks to be more fuel then.

Thanks Just_me, I'll look out for it.

seems to be fun issue, M6 vs M635CSi and M6 by AC schnitzer. I'll look out for it too :)

no but what did it have to do with the thread? or Im I missing something :t-hands: I think its obvious a F430 handles better than a M5.

just a joke reply on imhoteps joke about the 430 and the gallardo.. understand?:D

LOL... good for you :D--
Well actually Artist It's a dream of mine to drive and unlimited M5 of autobahn with no speed limit and leave some of those Gallardo/F430 behind and say something like "damn those 315 km/h cars should not be allowed here, really they are causing traffic jams. I going to miss that appointment because of these slow pokes. :D
Now really the M5 handles awsome, supercar style that's what every reviewer said. Where the Gallardo/F430 outshine the M5 is AGILITY, they don't oversteer like an M5 on a race track. I belive than on Car magazine track test the M5 had a better time on wet . Does anybody has a link.
If somebody in a Gallardo/F430 thinks he can crush an E60 M5 in performance and handling than they're living in fantasy world.

BMW M

BMW M GmbH, formerly known as BMW Motorsport GmbH, is a subsidiary of BMW AG that manufactures high-performance luxury cars. BMW M ("M" for "motorsport") was initially created to facilitate BMW's racing program, which was very successful in the 1960s and 1970s. As time passed, BMW M began to supplement BMW's vehicle portfolio with specially modified higher trim models, for which they are now most known by the general public. These M-badged cars traditionally include modified engines, transmissions, suspensions, interior trims, aerodynamics, and exterior modifications to set them apart from their counterparts. All M models are tested and tuned at BMW's private facility at the Nürburgring racing circuit in Germany.
