The Audi's development of its high-performance TT RS is fully underway, but the German automaker may have to rethink the car's name, a new report find. According to a source familiar with the situation, Porsche is taking issue with Audi using the RS nameplate as a suffix rather than a prefix.

For several decades now, Porsche has used the RS nomenclature to denote the highest-performing vehicle in a range– such as the Boxster RS 60 Spyder. Porsche feels that it should be the only company to use RS as a suffix, as to not dilute its brand image.

However, Porsche doesn't have any objections to Audi using RS as a prefix, as in the RS4 or RS6.

It seems that the internal debate is far from over, but it looks like the name RS TT has a far better chance of riding on the TT's bumper than TT RS.

I'm fully behind Porsche on this matter. Audi needs to fall back and recognize what's real, the heritage of the GT3RS and RS Spyder.

Before you blow your horn.
There are several other manufacturers that had or have the RS suffix.
Like BMW 700 RS, Ford Sierra RS Cosworth, Ford Focus RS, Opel/Vauxhall Frontera Sport RS, Skoda Octavia RS, Nissan Skyline 2000 RS, Chevrolet Camaro RS and ofcourse the Borgward RS (from witch Porsche was "inspired" some say:D:D:D).

Although the suffix probably goes further in time.

Yeah the RS suffix goes way back but in this case it's a bit sensitive since Porsche and Audi are in the same family. Porsche are probably worried that a misinformed individual not able to get their hands on a GT3RS might go off and pick up the cheaper TT-RS thinking that it offer nearly the same experience as the Porsche.

Suddenly Porsche has all the mooolah and they start calling all the shots. Maybe they are planning an RS version of the Cayman or Boxter?

This is what happens when people have to much free time on their hands.

After so many years of ignorance they decide that the nameplate somehow magically belongs

to them and point the finger at Audi.

Grow up.
