Don't you love it when Porsche unveils a new hardcore version of its mainstream models? We sure do and we are happy to announce that the 911 GT3 Cup version was officially introduced yesterday. Based on the upcoming 911 GT3, the Cup is powered by a 3.8l six cylinder flat engine that generates 460 hp (338 kW) at 7,500 revs, sent to the rear axle via a six-speed dog-type gearbox, developed by Porsche Motorsport, that can be operated via shift paddles at the single piece race steering wheel. The braking system is also improved compared to its predecessor, and features 380 millimetre slotted and inner-vented steel brake rotors with six-piston aluminium fixed callipers at the front axle and a for piston version at the rear.
For the driver's safety, a newly design roll cage and race seat with distinctively shaped head and shoulders part are fitted to the car, as is a rescue hatch in the roof. In the exterior, one can notice the redesigned front bumper with front splitter and carbon fiber canards, as well as the rear wing, the center-mounted dual exhaust system and the single-piece racing wheels.
The first race car to be based on the seventh generation of the 911, the 911 GT3 Cup will be run exclusively in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup in 2013. Produced in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen on the same assembly line as the road legal models, the GT3 Cup will start from 181,200 Euro plus the country-specific value added tax.
