Porsche accuses Nissan of cheating at Nurburgring

I always said that there is no chance a 1700kg 480hp car is as fast as a pagani zonda F which is alot lighter and more powerful

Thing is, we now have two non-Nissan tests (one independent and one by Porsche) stating times around 7:50... Nissan will respond but question is how? It is clear that they can't make the car tested by Porsche 20-30 seconds faster by just replacing the driver... unless Porsche deliberatley made the car go slower than it could. If I was Porsche I would never dare to do that, much greater damage from a stunt like that than Nissan got from (again) using a lap made by a tuned car as advertising.

I guess Sport Auto will have their final word on the subject soon enugh.

One of the reason why the GT-R have "beaten" some super cars in various comparisons made by magazines is because the car is apparently dead easy to drive. The DSG and highly efficient AWD system does a lot of work for the driver. A car like the Zonda, GT2 or F430 Scuderia take much more skills to master. Although many of the magazines have superb drivers some of them are simply incapable of driving a car like the GT2 at the edge with all the electronics switched off.

Still the GT-R ring laptime is off the scale and Nissan really need to step up to the plate. and take a random GT-R to prove their claim.

Porsche KNOWS their cars are better:D

If Porsche came out and said the Turbo could lap in 7:05 and just told people to take their word for it, how many would? Someone would step up and test that number.
SAE tests HP for engines, EPA test fuel mileage estimates...

^ No we shouldn't ignore them but if Nissan have done the tests with a More powerful car then all the tests will be inaccurate!!

And I'm sure Porsche will do enough tests on the Nissan to prove the car they used was a prototype with maybe more BHP:usa7uh:

So we will believe this because Porsche said so? What about those dozens of tests? Should we ignore them because Porsche reckons that their cars are better?

I'm asking...

When taking other lap times around different tracks into account, the GTR doesnt get anywhere near the times of the real supercars, yet on the ring it does, but only when ddriven by nissan. On some tracks the GTR is barely faster than the R8, yet the R8 lapped the 'ring in over 8 mins....

I still dont buy it. Besides the Nurburgring claims, there have been countless road test's by dozens of motoring publications where the GTR proved to be faster around a track then 911TT. Does that make all those road tests fake?

While the authenticity of the 7:29 Ring time remains a mystery, there is absolutely no doubt about the fact that the GTR is faster then a 911TT around most tracks.

What tests? We have yet to see an unbiased test of the GT-R around the ring. Still waiting for SA since they will prove how's smoking, Porsche or Nissan. Until then the GT-R lap time is a myth.

I would agree with this. Its faster than the 997 turbo but not as fast around the 'ring as nissan claim.

I wonder if the GTR is compared to the facelifted/updated mk2 997 turbo by porsche?

Okay so we can face up to the GTR being faster than the 911TT BUT how did they get the 7:29min??

False advertisement, I'm sure that will soon get sorted tho:usa7uh:

The porsche Blood is burning in your veins Luw ? :D Come on man, as if Nissan was the only carmaker to try convincing other that their products seem more than their worth. :D

Well, Nissan did release an official video showing the 7:29 ring time. As for cars not achieving claimed manufacturers times, its been happening since............ forever! I dont see what the big deal is this time around? Maybe just that the GT-R's hype has put a dent in Porsche's 'potential' market since everyone has been comparing it to the 911 TT.

^^
Yes all manufacturer try to spin their car a bit but as far as performance figures manufacturers tend to be very conservative with their figures, BMW and Porsche in particular. The official acceleration figure for the 997S Mk.II is 4.6 seconds but like we've been in many tests and comparison is even quicker than that, more like 4.4 sec!

All the lap times announced by Porsche have always been realistically reachable with Sports Auto drivers merely 1-3 seconds slower. Nissan on the other hand have claimed a 7.29 lap time which not only is record breaking but 25 seconds away from what one of Porsche's test driver have been able to acheive. That's rather peculiar given how manageable the car is. We're talking about a very big and deceptive exaggeration that has lead to unseen publicity and hype. Nissan has gained a lot from this.

Imagine getting tricked into believe that a product you've bought isn't really capable of doing what advertised.

I'm steaming!:D

Yeah. They made the GT-R appear as the second coming of Christ. :t-crazy2::t-crazy2:

Umm it is... you'd be absolutely joking yourself if you don't admit that this car raised the bar. Actually it catapulted the bar right up Porsche's rear end.

Don't get me wrong, I adore Porsche almost as much as I love BMW's... while it's possible (actually likely) that the time is suspect, the GTR is one hell of a car.

On top of that, you guys gotta realize that this wasn't an ad or anything, so stop complaining about fines.

No, but they do have a fine tradition of it when it comes to Skylines - best car in the world, behind closed doors.
