Look what I have found. The article is quite interesting but I really don't think that Porsche will bring this car bacause of the fact that the Panamera is on the way which makes this car more or less useless.

Not really Stuttgarter, the 928 was a GT car, it's bigger and a bit more comfortable than a 911 - it would compete against the CL. My dad had a 928 S4 from 1989 to 1995 - it was his favourite car he has ever owned.

I don't know about that rationalization. The Boxster is the entry level "poor mans" Porsche, then comes the Cayman, something like a poor mans 911. 911 for those who want the original, ultimate, and chracterful Porsche. Cayenne for those who want a Porsche but need the space. The Panamera will be for those that want all things Porsche in a modern interpratation, that can be all things to a single individual. The 928.... fits in no where.

No I'm not saying that at all. But the 911 shares it's market more with the Mercedes-Benz SL (even though in reality the Benz is also more of a GT). The 911 is also not a "Tourer", the 928 is designed to be driven across the continent in relative comfort - it's not as fast as a 911, but that's not the point of the 928, it's not for racing, it's a "Gran Turismo".

Exactly. Porsche could bring this car back as large sized GT with a price of 200k maybe. I do beleive that Porsche needs to manufacture a car which is somewhere between the 911 and CGT.

Clarkson said that engine is great and all that but the car doesn't have soul. He also said that he couldn't live with the fact that car was made just to fill in the gap between Boxster and 911 and not as best as Porsche could do it.

Well what he said is true but a bit irrelevant. The Cayman is built to fill the gap between the boxter and 911 and it's simply not supposed to compete with other cars with more power. Just the same way the SLK and Z4 is not supposed to pack as much power as SL55 and M5. Not anly sports cars need to pack 400hp.

On topic though, I reckon a new 928, or just simply, a Panamera Coupe would just be grand.

That's probably true, but the fact is that Luwalira's point still remains - most companies do it: in fact I'd hazzard a bet that all companies do it to an extent. Why doesn't the CLK55 or SLK55 have a supercharger for example? So it doesn't degrade the upper-tierd models such as the CL55 and SL55 - essentially, AMG aren't attempting to make the best, fastest, sportiest car they can, they're making a car which doesn't conflict with its other models.. exactly what Porsche is doing. I see no problem with it when the end result is something like the Cayman...

I think another point is that 'being the best car it can be' can be said on so many different levels. Sure, it may not be the best sporting car it can be, but how about the fact it fills a void in Porsche's line up, bridging the considerable gap between the Boxter and 911, and doing so with considerable validity? Maybe looking at it from this perspective, from a price point, the Cayman may indeed be the best it can be - if it had been 'more' sporty it would have simple conflicted with the 911 and become far more expensive than its Boxter base.
