Comparison tests Porsche 918 vs McLaren P1 vs LaFerrari

This information is incorrect. The telemetry is quite revealing, and the article and accompanying video should provide fodder for internet racers for months to come.

Ah! The boss has arrived. Which bit of it is incorrect?

You will find out when the article is published :) Seriously - these guys make their living producing quality information, and without them the comparo never would have happened. I'm going to let them release the test results on their own terms. Once the article's out, I will fill in any missing details.

well EVO did mention that their 918 lap had a lot of room for improvement and that the lap was taken right of the bat unlike the P1 which had more laps to improve the laptime

i'm estimating 1-1,5 seconds by more sessions and using the roof

Aye aye captain.(y)

Agreed. As a (skilled) amateur driver, to be able to hop into any one of three street cars and turn a sub-1:35 at Laguna Seca and then drive home afterward in comfort is... unreal.
hi ben, thanks for being so generous with all the videos and infos about the cars. i am curious if you will bring laferrari to laguna seca soon? and would ferrari let you reveal the laptime over there if there will be measuring device on board. i haven't seen any laferrari owners saying much about any specific laptime but i have learned that them tracked the cars in a few places, is there any sort of embargo imposed onto customer that they have to wait til a certain date to let the media to test to car with performance measurement?

Was the LaF tested too?

I am so glad this tyre talk will end now we have another mag testing the P1 against the 918 and giving some track time!!! Go Motortrend, best US cag mag!!

Tyre talk will never end so long as the cars are on different tyres. Will be great to have some more data, we've been arguing about the Anglesey test(s) for months.

There is no embargo from Ferrari of posting my own videos, lap times etc. They simply request that we refer media inquiries to them. Given how much factory, ah, 'involvement' there is in media tests, I can understand why they are cautious.

We have not yet taken our LF to Laguna, but I will be sure to post video when we do.

I'm just trying to make sure that I have this right. So when you say "media inquiries", do you mean magazine tests? If yes, then technically someone who owns all three could give them to a mag for a triple comparo without the fear of being banned from buying ferrari's hypercars and with no bull other than optimization.

I thought the idea was a same day 3-way test???

*My* idea was to test a customer-owned P1 on retail tires, either by itself or with other customer cars, with the same driver and same track and same day. This approach would eliminate the usual shenanigans of factory cars which sometimes do not perform the same as customer examples.

That is not what actually occurred on Tuesday.

I expect what did occur will provide months of fodder for the interwebs :)

Hi Ben,
I take it that they ran the 918 in HL Mode? it does make a big difference. Doing the same test in UK next month, agree the only fair way is on the rubber the cars are supplied with etc...
